It happens when chamfer connect edge segments are at least 2 or more

Autogrid seems to be doing what it is supposed to do - it is basing its direction on the Normals of the poly it is over. Try adding an Edit Normals Modifier to your box and look at how the Normals are pre and post the Chamfer. If you need a specific poly to be perfectly flat you would have to remove any Smoothing Groups associated with that poly. Remember that a Box has no smoothing initially, but the Chamfer introduces it (by default - you can turn it off).

thank you Steve, but I think you got me wrong. Sorry, my english is not good enough to describe the situation, but I'll try it.

This problem is just in 3ds max 2015.

Please make a big box. Then convert it to editable poly and chamfer around edges of one side of box, with at least 2 edge segment and chamfer amount, for example (0.1) .  now try to make a big plane on that side of box by autogrid.  The problem is here. the point you start the plane is on the poly but the rest of plane is not exactly on the poly .( the plane is not aligned with the poly of the box.

I hope I could describe the problem.

Thx again

Steve understood you perfectly well.

Like he said it`s because of the new Smoothing options in the chamfer feature.

There are two options 'Entire object' or 'Chamfers only'.

Choose the second and you will get the expected behavior.
