Hello there!

Happy New Year!

I'm wanting to use the Vive Motion Controllers to be able to turn a Car's Steering Wheel in real time, as well as open any car doors like the video attached (skip to 1:20).

If I set up a rig and animation in an outside package, would it be possible to make this happen in VRED using some scripting?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Harry

Hey Ingolf,

Thanks for your reply, that looks awesome!

How would you script something like that, but instead of using an actual steering wheel, using the Motion Controllers to turn the wheel. Say, pulling the trigger while moving the Controller down on side of the wheel would turn it one way.

Thanks

Harry

Hi Harry,

We use UDP socket connections for the communication with VRED. All the details of programming UDP sockets in Python would be beyond the scope of this forum but there are plenty of excellent references and tutorials you will find on the web.

Good luck!

Ingolf
