I was wondering if anyone has any advice on getting sound into VRED? I am working with our User experience team to create various animated sequences. Our audio lead designer was particularly interested if there is there support for multi-channel audio triggers? 10 channel + Also 3D sounds. I did open the sound file in the VRED examples folder and that seamed to have 3D sound in it. I would appreciate any advice anyone could give me on the subject of VRED audio in VR

Many thanks

Justin

Hi Justin,

I wrote an article on how to setup a 3D sound node via python and hope this helps. Go to Article >>>

10+ multi channel sound is not supported but sound pretty interesting.

Cheers

Pascal

We have just updated the sound libraries that work better with the HMD position in VR. Nothing obvious to the user or visible in the frontend. It does not solve your multi-channel sound usecase.

I am also interested in playing back Ambisonics spatial audio soundtracks in VRED. I see that VRED does not support Ambisonics multichannel sound files natively, so I am planning to pre-decode the Ambisonics audio to a spherical array of virtual loudspeakers (as my soundtracks are Ambisonics 3rd order, I think that a virtual spherical array of 32 loudspeakers should be enough).
So I will have these 32 mono WAV files, each of them attached to a 3Dsound node, defined as in the article pointed out above.
My concern is: will all the 32 sound objects play perfectly in sync? Ambisonics playback requires that the 32 virtual loudspeakers play sound perfectly synchronized, even one sample of delay in one loudspeaker can cause spatial distortion...
So, are we sure that all the 32 3Dsound nodes will start playing exactly at the same time, without any inter-channel latency?
