Sadly the intel gpu drivers are completely broken so you can´t run VRED on it. You will need an AMD or NVIDIA GPU to run VRED. Eventuelly it might be possible to run VRED in raytracing only mode by starting it with the -no_opengl argument but I doubt that this will be very usable on a notebook.

Hi everyone,

i have a big (very big) customer that wants Vred Presenter for his sales peoples.

But every sales has a Dell notebook with Intel UHD Graphics 620.

Once installed, VRED Presenter crash at startup at 97% of loading.

I know that Intel graphics are not in the compatibility list, but, there is any chance to make Vred works?

or some workaround to try?

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz
Processor Speed: 1992 MHz
Processor Graphics in Use: Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620
Shader Version: 5.1
OpenGL* Version: 4.5
OpenCL* Version: 2.1
Vulkan* Version: 1.1.82

* Microsoft DirectX* *
Runtime Version: 12.0
Hardware-Supported Version: 12.0

I will try to contact Intel about this again but sadly the notebook manufactures are very lazy in delivering updated drivers as well and make it unnecessarily hard to install the native intel drivers, so I am not sure how much we can achieve here.

We haven´t bothered testing them anymore after several years of frustration. The issue is that even if Intel fixes their drivers many notebook manufactures wouldn´t ship recent drivers so they would still crash. And from my last tests it wasn´t even possible to install the native intel drivers on some notebooks because....reasons I guess....

If your notebook has an Nvidia or AMD GPU it should be possible to run VRED on it, you might just need to adjust the driver properties so VRED always uses the discreet graphics.

Well.....let´s say it this way: I was able to run VRED 2023 on my surface laptop 4 in OpenGL mode if I install the latest drivers from Intel (not from the notebook manufacturer).....at least 3 or 4 times before the driver would not work anymore.....and I wasn´t able to get it to run again, no idea why.

You can probably VM a linux distro and run it on Linux, or you could try running VM windows and give it some "generic" gpu that could be supported by vred. I've run it on Centos, just don't tell Autodesk as that Vred support is very welcome...

Use VMWare workstation 16 player for Linux(latest centos) as I tested it with that. As to windows, try Virtual Box, both of these apps can assign GPU to a degree to VM. Not direct passthrough, but it will simulate gpu, and I think that simulated gpu will be supported by Vred then.
