FBX doesn´t support substance so it is pretty much expected that you loose all the materials except for their names. You will need to reassign all materials in your target application.

Transformations however should be preserved and from our tests with Maya they usually are. There are some differences due to a different interpretation of rotation orientation between VRED and Maya but the rest should stay pretty much intact. So I expect this to be more an issue of the 3D application you use to import the files into.

Kind regards

Hello,
first of all, i'm not a autodesk user (vred or maya), so my post may be some misunderstanding of the situation i've been working on for some time.
A client just sent me a file of a product they want to make a CGI commercial as .VPB, and i'm using VRED trial to get to know the program, so i can export it to my 3D software.
The problem is that, as I export as .FBX, i lose every material (substance) in it, as well as the pivot/axis and transform data stored in it, so it's pretty much polygons with their pivot/axis to the global 0 xyz/hpb.
If i had to do stills and didn't have to animate it, wouldn't be a problem. But as far as i get to do rigging stuff to it, doing every pivot and axis center/rotation to every object is an impossible task (and i'm not mentioning inverted Z and Y because i'm using other 3d aplication)

Just trying out the Demo from Maya to test the FBX file.
Getting some warnings here, like, malformed mesh and uv values out-of-range:

"The plug-in has detected mesh nodes containing polygons with overlapping vertices. The following objects have been automatically cleaned up:

Hole_1_FAC3,Solid_1_FAC561,Solid.1,Solid_831_FAC0,Solid_588_FAC0,53100-MJPB-G500 PIPE STRG HNDL.1,node#2445,node#1293,Solid.1,Solid.1,Solid_1_FAC311,Solid.2_,Solid.1_,Solid.1"
... and many other solids.
"Some UV values in the scene were either too large or too small to be handled correctly. The FBX plug-in has clamped them to a valid value range.

The following nodes are affected:

ResultFBXASC032ofFBXASC03211100MJPBG522_BLOCK_COMPFBXASC044CYLINDERFBXASC0461FBXASC092FINISH"

Don't know if there is any limitations on exporting FBX from VRED Design trial, or maybe i need the Professional version to get a cleaner export, but this is getting out of hand.

The FBX export is the same between VRED Design and Pro. This sounds a lot more like the data you have in the VPB is not clean and has some issues. You can try the optimize module in VRED to clean up some of those errors.
