However, we found that quite often turbosquid models contained materials that are native to the application the model was constructed in and are not exported correctly to FBX. You might also need to check if the textures are at the path the model is looking for. You should see some warnings if textures can not be found.

Hello.

I've bought a 3D model from Turbosquid and I had to download obj.rar files. When I extracted the files the materials didnt follow. They were jpegs..

I could download the first model I bought, without any problems, I got in in a "3D Studio Model". But the next one I have in a "3D Object" and no materials, just plain grey.

What should I do with the jpegs? I can see it's the materials that I want.

You have to create materials and apply the textures (jpgs) to the materials

Were there any other options to download the model other than a .obj?

Can you send the link to the model on turbosquid website so we can see what options there are and give you a better idea?

Ah okay, I will check it out. I'm sort of a beginner in these sort of things.

Yes there is a few options, VRAY.rar, C4D.rar, FBX.rar, Maya.rar, standart.rar, and OBJ.

Here's the link

https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/fm-2020-crane-3d-1648598

Yeah definitely try the fbx however either way you will have to recreate materials and re apply the texture maps to get the materials to look right in vred because you cant come from one app/renderer to vred 1 to 1 as they use different shaders (material models).

Best,

Richard
