Hi

I will refer you to a previous post that I made.

You can try and use Design Checks for this problem, you will, however, need to apply a formula based on road design principles to calculate your design speed based on your existing design conditions i.e. Curve length, curve radius etc.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-civil-3d-forum/custom-design-criteria/m-p/7029570#M334858https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-civil-3d-forum/custom-design-criteria/m-p/7029570#M334858

Additionally, one of my colleagues (Alastair Ridden) has created a video on our company youtube channel about design checks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXtJqntEvgg

You will be able to apply this formula on the various curves in question and review the results to find your maximum possible speed based on that.

I hope this helps.

Marnus van Staden

Technical consultant & Civil 3D support Specialist

Prokon Software Consultants

Check for Maximum Speed

I'm not familiar with this software but I'm trying to help someone. They wanted a quick way to find the fastest speed for a given path. I used the following procedure which looks pretty lengthy. Any other options to determine a maximum speed?

I used the Review panel and did the following

Vehicle Tracking Drawing Explorer

Select the current path and click Edit

Select Maneuvers and double-click the single entry 0001 *** Initial Model ***

Select Speed in the Properties dialog and increase from 13.3 km/hr to 13.4 km/hr

Close all dialogs

The path changes to show the vehicle not making the turn

Clicking Design Check shows an exception "Steering Applied Too Fast" The steering has been applied faster than the vehicle capabilities will permit 37.25m from the start of the path.

Hi, Thanks for the information but I think that would not take into account the type of vehicle. I believe the solution would need to involve the Vehicle Tracking software.

HI

I am sorry that this will not work for you. The method that you are describing seems to be the only way, although I do not remember the need to go to the AVT drawing explorer to see this limit, I tried a few times to see if it will show me the limit as I place the vehicle on the path but unfortunately I could not replicate this, my thinking is that this was a feature on AVT 2016 and has since been moved. I will continue looking...

In the end, it all boils down to formula. Is there maybe one that you know of that can be used to calculate this?

Also, I would then suggest posting this form on the ideas section for AVT to see if Autodesk will implement something like this in a future release.

Regards

Marnus van Staden

Technical consultant & Civil 3D support Specialist

Prokon Software Consultants
