License Requirements for Vault Basic

Hi,

I am looking to set up Vault Basic for my team at work. I don't fully understand the licensing requirements. The website states:

'An Autodesk ID with an entitlement to Vault Basic is required to use the Vault Basic Client'

What exactly does this mean? Do you require entitlement to tokens? Or a product collection?

Vault basic licensing dictates that you need a licence and have an entitled cad product (inventor, acad etc) installed to be allowed to use it.

every user that needs Vault Basic has to have a license of Autocad, Inventor etc installed

it cannot be an LT product

So people who are assigned a flex token for AutoCAD would be eligible to use Vault Basic? (even if they are not actively using the tokens?)

The CAD Forum article is not correct and misleading.

Just because you have " non-zero Flex Token credit" doesn't mean you can use Vault Basic.

we have people who might have access to tokens but very rarely use them. They might only open a drawing once every six months. They are very infrequent token consumers.

You may have to ask your reseller for licensing issues like such. My impression from the (unofficial) post I linked above is that your "My accounts" page will enable all those product downloads/installs to be acquired if you have tokens that allow you to use AutoCAD, for example. In which case, it may be a loophole to have "entitlement" and be able to download those without more than a few tokens in credits, but at the end of the day your usage of Vault Basic is always throttled by how many tokens you can spend.

Vault Basic does not consume tokens which is why it does not fit in this scenario.

that's where it gets interesting again. for version 2023 and previous you have to install either AutoCAD or Inventor alongside it. Previously this was never an issue as we had network licenses and tended to install Inventor and AutoCAD on most machines in case they were needed. We can still install AutoCAD (or Inventor) onto the vault machines if they're in the token pool so this would work.

However, in version 2024 the website states the line I originally posted:

'An Autodesk ID with an entitlement to Vault Basic is required to use the Vault Basic Client'

Which implies to me that simply having access to tokens would allow you to download and install it.

In previous releases, we force the user to have a qualifying CAD product installed on their machine because they were the only users who were entitled to use Vault Basic.

These users are daily users of the CAD product, as designers.

Therefore, if you got around this by installing AutoCAD just to install and use Vault Basic, you were violating the entitlement to use Vault Basic.

This does not change when it comes to being assigned tokens. If these users are not a daily user of the product which comes with the entitlement to use Vault Basic, they are not entitled to use Vault Basic even if they are just assigned tokens.

I still find this very vague.

What is the minimum amount of usage (maybe per year?) that qualifies you to be allowed used Vault Basic?
