sorry for that im new on this, so before i update, the backup that i have, i want to restore it on a new computer for example, if i install the vault server 2015 with that sql server the R2 SP2 am i ok to do it ? or else i need first to create the backup over this version (Vault 2013 SQL with SQL R2 SP2) and then do another backup so i can get it restore on the Vault 2015?? makes sense?

because the main task that i need or want it to do is to have this backup runing with the Vault Server 2015 for doing some test since that we are going to upgrade to that version.

Hello

Im presenting this issue

Issue:

When you try to restore a Vault backup, the following error message is displayed:

Restore failed because the backup has products that are not supported by the server

Causes:

This error can occur for the following reasons:

Product update was applied to the backup server, but hasn’t been applied to the restoring server.

Backup was created in higher version of Vault than the restoring server. (For example, the backup was created in Vault Professional, and you are restoring in Vault "basic.")

Backup was created in a newer release than the restoring server. (For example, the backup was created in Vault 2014, and you are restoring in Vault 2013.)

Solution:

Try the following solutions:

Ensure the update, service pack, or hotfix of the backup server matches the restoring server.

Ensure the Vault version and product match.

Ensure the Vault releases match.

Can you give me more information about the solution part

On

1 do you mean the SQL Version that im running???

2 how can I compare the version that I have, I open the backupcontent.XML file and I have this

- <Products>
<Product Name="Autodesk.Productstream" Version="17.2.9.0" />
<Product Name="Autodesk.Vault" Version="17.2.9.0" />
<Product Name="Autodesk.VaultCollaboration" Version="17.2.9.0" />
<Product Name="Autodesk.VaultPro" Version="17.2.9.0" />
</Products>

Where can I compare this or how should I know what is the version of vault that im running?? The vault I have is the Vault 2013 (ADMS)

3 how can I see the release that I have

Here is the thing im working on a project of upgrade to version 2015 of vault, but we want to do the backup into a VM, right now I have a backup with the content that I provide above, and this backup was made by another person which I no longer have communication, and since of that I do not know where he did this back up under what version of vault with what SQL version I do not know nothing about this, and I did a restore on vault 2015 but I have an error message saying that my backup is not compatible, so right now I downgrade to version 2013 and SQL R1 SP1 to do a restore and then upgrade to SQL R2 to do a backup again and then restore it into a vault 2015 version but I have this error when I try to do the restore, can you help me out to see what I need to update if is my sql or if I need to update downgrade vault, please help

Regards!

José Antonio Mendoza | Autodesk & Vault Tools Support
Softtek | Blvd. Díaz Ordaz KM 333 | Plaza La Leona Secc IV | San Pedro Garza García, NL 66210

Tel: +52 (81) 8153 2000 ext. 2054 | www.softtek.com

twitter.com/Softtek | linkedin.com/company/Softtek | facebook.com/Softtek | feeds.feedburner.com/SofttekBlog | youtube.com/SofttekTV

Hi José,

The backup version is from Vault 2013 Update 1 for Service Pack 1. However I can't tell which product level that is, i.e. standard Vault or Professional etc.

Download and install this: http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/vault-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/vault-2013-service-pack-1.html?v=2013

Then this: http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/vault-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/update-1-for-vault-2013-service-pack-1.html?v=2013

So are you saying that you have no access to the Vault or server that this backup was taken from?

That is very unusual. How can a vault server just disappear? Or has it been taken offline and wiped? How can you be sure people aren't still working on the original Vault and that you have an old backup?

It could also be that the original Vault may be from Vault Professional and you're trying to restore into Vault Basic

Oh ok, then if you have Vault Pro Server, install service pack 1 then update 1 for 2013 and you should be half way there.

Are you restoring into SQL Express?

This error may be caused by restoring or attaching files from a version of SQL Server that is higher than the version of your SQL Server.
10/28/2015 5:09:50 PM Connectivity.Application.VaultManager.ServiceException: DatabaseServerNotCompatible [198] ---> Connectivity.Core.Exceptions.CoreException: DatabaseServerNotCompatible [198] ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: The database was backed up on a server running version 10.50.4000. That version is incompatible with this server, which is running version 10.00.4000.

Whoaaa you never said your log had provided SQL version numbers!

10.50.4000 is SQL 2008 R2 (SP2)

You are using SQL 2008 (SP2)

You need to get yourself the R2 version. Put service pack 2 on. Then you're all good.

Until now I thought you had no way of determining which version of SQL this had come from so we were guessing, that's a definite answer there.

Well we've established now that your backup is from Vault 2013 SP1 Update 1, and the SQL version was 2008 R2 SP2.

As you don't have the existing/old Vault server (it went missing or was deleted) there is no point in you thinking about installing Vault 2013.

So if I was you, do this:

On your new VM, install SQL 2008 R2 SP2.

Then install Vault Professional Server 2015, put ALL the latest service packs and hotfixes on. I think it's up to SP2 now.

Restore your backup into that.

Providing there are no other issues which you don't know of, it should all go smoothly. Obviously you'll need a license for Vault Professional 2015 as it doesn't have a trial period.

You've still got the wrong version of SQL installed.

You have SQL 2008 SP3.

You need to have SQL 2008 R2 SP2 or higher.

The two versions although both named 2008, are different versions.
