In order to get the state-based definitions to work, I had to remove the "Everyone" user from the security over-rides. Now I am able to check-out files that are in the "Released" state if I am using the Migrator account. This is a little easier to apply over a large group of files.

Migration of "Released" files with Task Scheduler

I am using Vault Pro and I have many files that are set as "Released". I would like to migrate these files to Inventor 2017 using Autodesk Task Scheduler. I have a user account "migrator" that I have set-up to allow modification to the "Released" life cycle. Here is the way I have the user account setup.

I logged into Vault in TS and used the "Migrator" account..... then created a migration task with the folder that I want migrated. When the task ran, the error report that was generated shows that nothing was done. The "Vault Server Error" is thrown during the "Check-out" phase of the task.

The entire log file is attached. Am I using the wrong task or is there something else that is wrong with my workflow?

Thanks,

Kirk

Kirk,

I get the "Vault Server Error" only when I used wrong permission settings. I see that the Lifecycle Process in the image is shown as "Basic". Are you sure that's the correct one? Or is it Flexible? Bring the "Lifecycle Definition" column and see which one you are using and also ensure that "Migrator" has the "Right" settings for that process. I tried it in 2017 and i am able to migrate the "Released" files using the "Right" persmission.

BTW, When you log in as Migrator in Vault Explorer, are you able to Check out that released file?

Kirk and I worked together outside this forum post to look into the user permissions. We found that we could get the desired and granular control over the particular files to migrate by manually overwriting the object and lifecycle based security on the target folders. See Manage Security Overrides for Files, Folders, and Custom Objects

Once the permissions were updated, the Migrator user was able to check out files as well as perform the Task Scheduler migration task properly.

Senthil,

The way that I am doing this now, is that I have to set the permissions on either a single folder or a single file. Matt called this "Granular" control. It works pretty well for me.

The only problem that I have with it, is that it does not allow me to change the permissions on several files at once. If I multi-select several files, then the "Details" are not available. It is pretty time consuming to change each individual file. Would it be possible to add the ability to change multiple files at once?

Thanks.

Kirk
