Coonecting to a server vault

Hi Guys, does anybody have an easy step by step way of connecting my vault to the server vault ? it suddenly stopped working when I was using a tower, which was getting old so I upgraded to a Dell laptop, I have set up my vault on the laptop and everything is working fine, so now I need to be able to access the server vault but I haven't got a clue, anybody help me ? thanks and regards

Do you get the Vault log in screen when you launch the vault client. I don;t have Vault on this machine so I can't take a snapshot of that log in.

First field: What type of Vault account do you have? Windows or a static vault account.

Second and third field: If you have a static vault account then enter your user name and password

Fourth field: Enter the name or ip address of your vault server. Probably right now its set to localhost

Fifth field: Select the browse button at the end of the field and select the vault name based on the server you provided in field above it.

Hi mark, thanks for taking the time to try and help me, I am very new to inventor so quite ignorant to the workings of it and will need everything breaking down to a very simple level and may take several replies to help me

Firstly I am unsure what a windows or static vault account is ?

No problem..

When you log into Vault you log in using a user name and a password.

If the log in type (first line) is set to Windows Authentication, then the Vault client using your Windows credentials and you do not need to provide that info.

If its set to Vault then you need to provide your (static) Vault user name and password.

In either case that user name and password has to be set up on the Vault server..

If you are using Windows Authentication, then your Windows log in information has to be imported in for you network server holding that info.

For (static) Vault accounts, the assigned Vault Administrator has to create that account information.

Hi mark, yes it must be a static as I remember a administrator preference being set up with several workers names and the level of what they could do within the vault

Ok.. Does that mean you know those account names and passwords?

What about the Vault Admin Account? Without that capability it will hard to do Vault Admin stuff...

Hi Mark, as far as I know ( im not in work at the mo ) there are no passwords except for the admin, which I know

First field should be set as Vault (account).

Then use the required user name and password.

The field after that will be the name of the Vault server.. When you first launch Vault the server name is set to localhost. Change it to the name of your Vault server.

In the final field if you know the name of your Vault (database) you can type it in or select the browser button [...] at the end of the field and select it from the list.

Hi Mark, i did what you said regarding the steps to connect to the vault and i successfully logged in but when i open Inventor and try to check out or check in from there i dont get the check in or check out highlighted ( see attached ) thanks for your help

That tells me that your active Inventor project is not designated as a Vault (Inventor project). Also for future postings you don't need to make a Word Document, just use the insert image icon, 10th icon from the left.

Normal Inventor projects can not be converted to a Vault project. So you have to create one (from scratch)...

hi Mark, there is a project file in the server vault all ready that two other guys connect to with no problen at all, my computer used to be connected ok then suddenly gave up, can i take a copy of that one ? thanks

Yes you can... Just get a copy of it (from Vault) and then without anything opened in Inventor, select that to be your active Inventor project file.

Hi Mark, i noticed that the project location was set to default and changed it to C/Vault and i now get the check in highlighted but when i check a file in, inventor just locks up ?

I have now been supplied with a fast laptop, I think the problem was that it was timing out, so with the new laptop I had to go through all the instructions I was given, so now I can check jobs in and check out old jobs that I have worked on before out but if I try to check out jobs that are in the server vault and there isn't already a copy in my vault they don't appear in my vault ? any ideas ?
