Attempting to rename a file in Vault Pro 2017, but when doing so I'm getting the following error:

So I've looked at the "Options" in Vault and found nothing as far as setting this "default", nor anything in Inventor.

Logged in as Admin, etc.

Never ever seen this error before and I can't seem to find a mention of it on here either.

You will need to ensure that a default Inventor Project file has been defined. To do this, follow these steps:-

In the Vault Client, go Tools>Administration>Vault Settings

On the Files tab, in the "Working Folder" section, click "Define"

Where it reads, "Default Inventor Project File" click the "..." ellipsis button and browse to an Inventor Project file that is located as close to the root of the Vault as possible, so that it can be used for all Inventor files.

Based on what you are showing on your print screens your Inventor project file should be at root ( $ ) path but you have it under work folder ( VaultWork ).

Alex,

I've always, ever since Vault Workgroup's inception, located the .ipj file at the next level down from root. Typically in what I label as "VaultWork" for the folder name.

I did attempt to locate the .ipj at the root ($) level and it kept duplicating folder structures that were already set and not at the same path.

For example let's say the user is working in a folder structure on his local of: Vaultwork/customer 1234/job 5678 that was created by him checking a part out of Vault, thus creating that structure on his local drive.

With the .ipj at the Vaultwork folder level, that path replicates on his HD just as it is in Vault as it needs to.

But if the .ipj is set at Root and he does the very same process of checking out a part from Vault that is in the very same path above, when he checks the file back in, it recreates the same folder structure, but puts it at the Root level and locating the parts at that level as opposed to where it should be.

I think I described that correctly. If I get the chance, I'll attempt to duplicate this in our "training" Vault to show you what I mean. It was really odd and thus I just went back to where I've always located the.ipj over the years and never had issues.

Hello Jim.

I know what you mean and why it happens, so I don't need an example, thanks.

Folder structure mapping is defined via Vault folder mapping and project settings to a way that you want and need.

I didn't say you must move the project file to root ($), just that Tools - Options, Inventor Project File location was linked to a project file at the root folder ($) not to the project file in subfolder where you said that you have it. That is why renaming,... didn't work.

There are two locations in Vault where you can set the project file, one that Ronald mentioned and the other that you showed on your print screen. Either one is configured correcty, renaming,... works.

Best regards,

Alex

Alex,

Thanks. FYI - I was told by someone, if I recall an Adesk employee to locate the .ipj file at the root level as opposed to a subfolder like I have it now.

I've since fixed the "Inventor Project File" setting in the Options menu as it should be ($/VaultWork/VG VaultWork.ipj).

But here's the thing, everything work fine and dandy on my station but now one of the users, even after they perform a "Get" on the .ipj file to path it where it needs to be on their local, when he either pulls a file out of vault or stores one in for the first time, it's recreating the folder structure and placing the files at the root level, instead of where the file is/was on his local.

This happens each time he checks a file into Vault. So he's done three files and thus far under root it's created like 3 levels of the "VaultWork folder. See below:

As you can see it's also duplicated the "VG Production" folder as well and stored the parts he modified there as opposed to where they are supposed to go, under the other "VG Production" folder.

Just now, I created a dummy part called "Pathing Part - Delete.ipt", stored it in the job folder in Vault. Went to his station, did a "check out" on the part from the "VaultWork\VG Production\"job folder". Then attempted to check the file back in and get this error:

Check In Error

File Does Not Exist: C:\VaultWork\VaultWork\VG Production\job folder\job number\Pathing Part - Delete.ipt

Check in Aborted.

What the heck?

Yep, one of the first things I checked.

It is set to "enforced"

I just now went to his machine, deleted the "VG VaultWork.ipj" file from his working directory.

Opened Vault and performed a "Check Out" on the "VG VaultWork.ipj" file.

Then attempted to do a "check in" of said file and I get the "file does not exist" error and the path it's showing is: C:\VaultWork\VaultWork.

Why is his station doubling up the folder structure on its own? Never seen anything like this.

Yep,

Delected the entire working folder from his HD, went to Vault and performed a "Get" on the VG VaultWork.ipj and it built his working folder as:

C:\VaultWork\VaultWork\ and in there the .ipj file resides.

No idea why it's creating the 2nd "VaultWork" folder on his station.
