All is working now!

IT finally followed the provided directions during a new install of SQL (there were a few required settings that Adesk specifies that must be done when installing SQL prior to Vault).

Once those were followed, low and behold, Vault installs without a hitch, imagine that.

So, my advice to all out there, as in cooking, preparation and follow the directions. If at all possible, when you have a separate IT department and they are not familiar with CAD or Vault, get the install directions to them and make sure they follow what is stated.

Hope I can explain things well enough here.

We're updating from 2017 Vault Pro to 2018 Vault Pro.

The powers that be here installed a trail version of SQL 2014 Standard for the Vault 2017 install.

They have since purchased SQL 2014 Standard.

It uninstalled the trial version and installed a fresh, purchased version.

Now when I attempt to log into the Vault 2017 Server console, it's requesting the "sa password".

This typically is a default password as specified in the Vault help files. But that password doesn't work.

IT is now thinking of uninstalling SQL and Vault 2017 (all files have been backed up and put aside so we won't lose any of that).

What I'm concerned about with that approach are all my settings/lifecycles, etc in Vault. I'm pretty sure I'd lose them and have to redo everything in 2018, correct?

Anyone have a suggestion on getting Vault to accept the default sa password, or even how to create a new one?

Looking into some info from googling this as well.

If they restore the backup, then you will not lose your settings. They can log into SQL with the Managment Studio and set the SA password to our default or you can use the SA password currently set when the ADMS Console prompts for it. It is not required for day to day user interaction with Vault.

Went into Management Studio, changed the password to the adesk default and it still won't accept it.

Irvin, et al....A new wrinkle has emerged in all of this.

IT hasn't installed Vault yet. They instead have installed SQL Standard 2014 and that is now asking for the "sa password".

Everything Irvin has stated here and everything I've read and known on doing these installs is applicable when Vault installs SQL during the Vault install process.

So at this point I'm thinking we have two options, 1. IT gets the SQL default password/activation code (or whatever they call it), complete the install of SQL Standard 2014, or 2. IT uninstalls SQL Standard and we install Vault, let Vault install SQL Express, thus allowing Vault to set the sa password to the "AutodeskVault@26200" default and then upgrade from SQL Express and Standard???

I am a little confused. You state "They instead have installed SQL Standard 2014 and that is now asking for the sa passwors". Is "that" the SQL Management Studio? Did IT forget the sa passoword? If so, did they try logging in with the Windows user account of the person that performed the installation? If they configured it for Mixed Mode, then the user should be able to log in with their Windows account. When they installed SQL did they install it naming the instance "AutodeskVault"?

If they don't remember the sa password and cannot log in with their Windows account, you will have to uninstall SQL and re-install it. They can pre-install SQL Standard with the instructions provided in the Help documentation.

Yes, the easiest way to install is to let Vault install Express and upgrade it to Standard.

Irvin,

Thanks for the info. Yes, I'm just as confused on this as you are.

I wasn't there during the process and I have no idea how or what they did at install, although they were provided all the Adesk Vault info for doing such, so I have no idea why it wasn't done that way.

I'm thinking it would be best to have them uninstall it and do it the way I've always done, install SQL by way of Vault and then upgrade.

I'll keep you informed.
