That is a crazy nuance that I was unaware of. That is the issue I find with the CD tool - it works so vastly different than any other part of Vault and it is only used occasionally so it is difficult to understand all of the strange UI it brings with it.

Thanks for the help guys.

Hello,

Forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere - a search did not yield any threads that solve my issue.

I am working with a dataset that is giving me the following issue:

I have an assembly that consists of a few parts. The assembly and parts have drawings. I want to copy the parts, assembly and all the drawings. I run Copy Design from the assembly idw (A1.idw). As I understand it (and it has worked for me in the past) CD will copy all of the drawings for the associated parts. Unfortunately, the tool is copying ~800 drawings. It seems that the company logo is linked to the titleblocks in all of the idws which is causing them to also be selected as part of the copy.

I thought if I changed the logo.png to reuse, it would no longer have all ~800 .idws marked for copy - unfortunately, this is not the case. It seems to me that the only way to narrow down the .idw list is to turn on Drawing View and go through the list and mark all Cousin .idws (.idws of unrelated parts) for reuse. I have tried turning on and off many of the options, but nothing seems to deselect all of the .idws of unrelated parts.

I have attached a simplified file structure that shows the issue - I do not want P3.idw and P4.idw to be copied.

Anybody have a nice way to deal with this?

Have you tried to start you Copy Design from the iam instead of the idw?

Yes. Irvin's suggestion on starting with IAM should solve your problem. Please take a look at this video.

This is a good suggestion when the linked drawings are the issue. However, I have seen this with common components when you CD from the .iam as well. For example, we build a lot of skid frames. These frames quite often use the same feet. The feet are so common that they have their own part number and drawings, in our "standard components" folder. When I CD any one of these frames, the program drags along with it every other frame assembly drawing that it can find that uses these same feet. I usually just go through and "Exclude" these, but I thought you might want to see this just as an FYI. Thanks! See you both in Vegas.

I am copying a small assembly (60) ipt/ iam, starting with the idw. and experiencing it looking at retrieving 12613 files, and taking well over an hour. It's a huge problem as I will need dozens of these copied in each layout. The interface in copy design does not show the extra files when I uncheck the associated file, but it still looks at them when I try to copy design and retrieves them etc.... Seriously 12613 files. Ugh
