Time out on Vault thin client

I would like to extend the time that the thin client can stay open. Our parts and service department likes to leave and instance of the client running as the day goes on to look up drawings throughout the day. Currently they may let it sit for 30 minute or longer before "needing" it and they are greeted with an error stating that it has timed out and must be restarted. They must close IE and reopen another instance. They have requested me to extend this time that the session stays active.

So...

Is it possible to do this and where do I change this?

See if checking the box to automatically log in helps. You cannot increase the timeout of the Thin Client without effect the thick client connections.

our users are reporting the same issue. According to them, the checkbox does not help.

When we used 2016 Vault the "keep me logged" box was checked and it didn't seem to cause any issues. When we upgraded to 2018 the "keep me logged in" being checked caused other issues that I cant recall but I know the only solution we found was to uncheck that box and make sure the browser was deleting its cache and cookies on exit. Another side effect was we could no longer use Chrome. In fact the browser we found to work was IE 11.

On the server, you can try and increase the connection timeout by selecting the Default Web Site, click the Limits option on Connections in the right pane. The default timeout should be set to 900 seconds. See if increasing this value helps.

Irvin...does this still apply to new Thin Client? Does it still affect Thick Client too if you extend them?

Ours is set to 60, but it doesn't help. Seems to be stuck around 20 mins.

If IIS is still set at 900 seconds, it will timeout sooner.

I recommend trying to increase the IIS timeout and see what happens.

So, I increased IIS to 1800 seconds....see what happens.

Also...going thru webconfig file I found this......

That have anything to do with it?

Did you edit the connection timeout in the Advanced Settings?

The IIS change did not make a difference.

I changed the ADMS Advanced Setting Time Out from 1000 (16 mins) to 3600 (60 minutes).

See what happens.

Doesn't appear that that worked either.

I did not restart SQL or anything like that.

Just made change on ADMS and closed console.

Thoughts?

Changing the above value should have done it. You can create a support case to see if there is something that is causing it not to work.

Looks like I had a short circuit between my chair and keyboard.🤔

Somehow I created a syntax error in the web config. I brought back a copy of the original one I had edited and made the change again.

Now it works.

So, lesson to this discussion...before edit a config file, always make a backup 😁
