Vault Item Master / ACADE Catalog Sync

Hello,

Our company is implementing both Vault and AutoCAD-Electrical (ACADE). We will be using the item master records in Vault to push BOMs to our ERP system for manufacture. We cannot use manufacturer part numbers as our internal part number because of potential conflicts. I am looking for a way to keep our item master records and ACADE part catalog in sync. We want to leverage the numbering sequences in the Vault Item Master.

Currently, I have the USER1 field in the part catalog mapped to the initial value for item number field in Vault. When I promote an ACADE project to an item, anything with a blank in USER1 will be assigned the next number in the sequence, which is desired. This new item number does not get pushed back into the USER1 field in the ACADE catalog. When a different project referencing the same part is promoted to an item, a brand new item record (for the same part) is created. This is not desired.

Is there an out-of-the-box way to configure these two applications to work together? I would like to avoid custom code if I can help it, but that is not out of the question.

Can you embed a screen capture of the mapping you have in Vault for the USER1 property? It's been a while since I looked at it, but it seems like it should be able to map in both directions.

Thanks for the response. We've been through that process of mapping the User 1 field to the item number. My problem is getting the item number back into that User 1 field after a new item record is generated and assigned a number via the numbering scheme.

I feel that pain. There isn't even an "Update Properties" tool on the AcadE Vault ribbon. I wonder if they ever plan to create any kind of "two way" communication between Vault and the AcadE Catalogs. This is really an issue for the AcadE team, since they manage the Vault Add In for their product. I'm afraid I don't have any answers... I would suggest maybe posting on the AcadE forums, with a link to this thread, asking if they ever plan to be able to do this. Probably won't get any answers other than: Add it to the AcadE Idea Forum.

Thanks for the help. I will likely end up doing a homebrew SQL or API integration. I was just trying to avoid that for the sake of simplicity.

It would be good to hear from other users of ACADE/Vault how they integrated the two products.
