This setting tells Inventor about the mapping between the Project workspace and the Vault folder structure. If you remove it, you are clearing the mappings to the Vault folder structure and Inventor will not be able to know what the Vault file status is and Inventor will tell you that the Project Workspace is not mapped. So if you are using Vault you should not be clearing this setting. It is taking longer because it is checking the workspace in Vault so that the Vault browser in Inventor will indicate the proper Vault status of the file. When you removed the $, Inventor can't check Vault for the status and therefore it will proceed with the process faster.

We found that having the Vault server in my office and engineers at a remote office 60 miles away (linked by a very slow DSL modem) was too slow for anything less than Vault Pro with full replication at both sites.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for the information. Correct if you are connecting to the Vault Server that is at a different site this will cause performance issues. You could look into setting up a local AVFS Server to help when working with large files.

Regards,
