Vault Basic Server issues

I installed the Vault basic and it doesnt work... I uninstalled it but it didnt fully remove this SQL database instance service AUTODESKVAULT. Now, its neither installed or uninstalled.

Basically, when i try to install Vault Basic, it errors because it can fins the database instance which is not running but when i try to start the instance, it doesnt exist..

soooooo, what can i do to get this install to work. I either need to fully remove this instance or get the Vault installation work properly. Any ideas anyone?

Hi @NachoShaw,

Is this the first time you are installing Vault on this computer or are you trying to do an in-place upgrade? If you look at the Windows Event Viewer is there more to that SQL Error?

Make sure the Username the SQL Service is running as has access to the SQL Data folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.AUTODESKVAULT\MSSQL\DATA). You can figure out the username the services running as by looking at the Service and select the Log On tab:

If you already have Vault installed on this computer make sure you see the Vault and KVM .mdf & .ldf files

If you cannot fix this windows error, you may need to try uninstalling SQL. If you had Vault setup on this server before make sure you have a full Vault backup before uninstalling SQL. When you uninstall SQL it will delete the Vault databases and you will lose the data. If the ADMS Console does not Open so you can take a backup using Tools > backup, then you can take a backup using the 3rd party backup method. If you close the installer and uninstall SQL then next time the Vault Installer will reinstall SQL when you try to install Vault. Make sure you are logged in as an Administrator of the computer. When uninstalling SQL make sure to uninstall all components to SQL and reboot the computer. If using the windows control panel still does not remove the SQL instance you could try to uninstall SQL from a command line.

The other option is to uninstall SQL and then Pre Install SQL before installing Vault. You can find the SQL Express install in the Vault Server install media (C:\Autodesk\VBS2018_ENU_64bit_dlm\3rdParty\Sql2012Express\x64\Setup.exe)

Also. make sure you are installing Vault on a supported OS. I hope this helps, please let me know how things turn out.

Thanks for the reply. I had installed Vault basic on my machine and it didnt work so i tried installing again. That didnt work so i uninstalled the vault server and thats where the issues started. (i already had SQL server installed on PC)

Its working now, here is what i had to do:

Delete this folder and its contents - C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.AUTODESKVAULT

Delete this folder and its contents - C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\VaultServer

delete all of the AUTODESKVAULT registry entries

run an administrator CMD

type sc delete MSSQL$AUTODESKVAULT (this removed the server service)

type sc delete SQLAgent$AUTODESKVAULT (this remove the server agent service)

Reboot

Re-install

voila..
