I am a new Vault admin, so still learning here.

We combined two categories earlier this year (Manufacturing Engineering into existing Engineering), and we upgraded from 2021 to 2024 (Inventor Pro and Vault Pro).

I don't know when it started, but files checked into the Vault no longer show description. The Engineering category uses Engineering workflow, which we didn't change. It's still in the .ipt's, but doesn't show in Vault. Probably some mapping is off but I don't know how to fix it.

Previously, files would check into blank state with all iProperties, but after change they go straight into design state. I can't figure out how to get it back to putting into blank states, maybe that's part of our problem.

By engineering workflow do you mean an engineering "Lifecycle"?

You can start by verifying the auto-categorization rules to see if all IPTs/IAMs/IDWs/DWGs are being checked in and auto-categorized to the engineering category. That's under Tools (tab) > Administration > Vault Settings > Behaviors > Rules... > File Rules (dropdown pick) > select the proper rule and see its criteria.
Under Behaviors > Categories... > select Engineering and see what is checkmarked under the Lifecycles subtab at the bottom. From what you say, it might be that previously you had no lifecycle associated to the engineering Category (set to "<None>").

With all that said, setting a lifecycle definition is not a problem, if you are only concerned with the property mapping and know where to fix that. You can verify under Behaviors > Properties > select the "Description" row > Mapping subtab at the bottom > look for the Mapping and Create columns to determine whether it is set to save to Vault from the file (or bi-directional also works).

Thank you so much! Yes, Lifecycle. Vault lists it as category, so somtimes I forget to call it as Lifecycle. Points in first paragraph were spot on. All the Rules had Engineering, and setting None as default Lifecycle did the trick there. For the description, that fixed the issue I was having there. I really appreciate it.
