Released State - XREF Locking and Viewing Old State

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out a way to use the "Released" state on drawings to effectively lock xREF's in place for a view of what a design looked at a given time.

In my field, we oftentimes use the same drawing for approval state, permitting state, install state, and as-built states. I'd like to leverage revisions in vault to be able to use one drawing file to account for all the various states of my layouts throughout a project. All different revisions would use the same xREF file, but given the timing, the VERSION of the xREF should be different. What I'm running into and would like to avoid is when I retrieve an old revision of a layout drawing, it is retrieving the most up-to-date xREF. I'd like it to go back and get the corresponding version of the xREF, or at the very least, allow me to look at a PDF of the old layout as it was when I released it. Does anyone know how I can effectively lock states of xREF's in time through the use of revisions on top level layouts?

Make sure the xRef is released at the same time or before the parent drawing.

During the Get command make sure you click the Latest drop-down and select the specific Revision you want to download.

You may also need for it to overwrite what is in the workspace and click the box next to Use released for related files.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping for an answer that didn't involve releasing the xREF's as well. Is there anyway to avoid that as that can be a somewhat lengthy process as well I believe.

No there is no way to avoid releasing the xRefs. Vault Professional is a Revision based system so releasing the files is necessary.
