Vault 2018 – AddIn - Some items in original selection set are no longer availabl

Hello Reader smarter than me,

We are running into a very strange issue and or glitch with Vault 2018 (Client) API. The (clearly undesired) result is an action that will work only once and then cause the Error from the Title, “Some items in original selection set are no longer available in Vault. Please refresh and try performing the operation again.”

The only cure is to Log Out, Log In again and again it will only work once and fail (even a refresh will cause the issue).

My first thought was that the connection is timed out or killed in some other way.

Another quite strange thing is, it work in 2016 as expected with no issues at all. This suggest that it is just a referencing issue of some sort.

The things that have been updated/changed for the 2018 version are

Updated output path to 2018 -> C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Vault 2018\Extensions\tna\

Updated ApiVersion to 11.0 -> <Assembly: Autodesk.Connectivity.Extensibility.Framework.ApiVersion("11.0")>

Updated Referenced to SDK 2018 with same setting (Copy Local: False; Specific Version: False) ->

It is also not only related to the Vault Client, similar code is run in Inventor and will also fail after 1 call.

Any help or thoughts where the issue may be causes and or solved is very appreciated. If any additional information is required please ask.

Furthermore we struggle to find the Changes in the SDK through the online help.

OS Client: Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1

Vault Professional Client 2018 Build: 23.0.76.0 (has the issue)

Vault Professional Client 2016 Build: 21.1.4.0, Update 1 (works like a charm)

The issue also occurs with Windows Admin running the code with an admin Vault user account.

Some items in original selection set are no longer available in Vault. Please refresh and try performing the operation again.

System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel

In the Inventor AddIn the (translated) error produces is, Error: No access to a deleted object. Objectname: System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel

Reserve for code snippets:

As most of the code is custom / business specific and will only work with our Vault it does not really make sense to place the complete code.

A small update, it seems to be a connection issue.

The first response after a refresh is:

Error

Your account is logged out of the Autodesk data managment server. You must log in to access the vault.

Is anybody else experiencing this or a similar issue with 2018?

Hello Anne,

I can imagine how horrible these kind of issues can be. Especially when it works in 2016 and suddenly does not in 2018.

All joking aside I just want to share what the actual issue was.

For some reason I started with an application not running in the Vault Client and pasted the code. In 2014, 2016 it worked without any issues.

In the code I utilize Using statement and this was causing the issue. Probably the disposing in pre 2018 was not working and got fixed.

Upon changing the Using Statement it works as expected again.

For info:

'Using mgr As ACWT.WebServiceManager = mVault.mApp.Connection.WebServiceManager

'End Using

Changed to

Dim mgr As ACWT.WebServiceManager = mVault.mApp.Connection.WebServiceManager
