In July 2019 we renewed some of our licenses using the 3 year renewal option. All AEC Collection multi-user licenses.

Will we have the opportunity to do a 2 for 1 trade while we are in the middle of this contract?

Thank you for your question!

For multi-user subscribers trade in is offer:

At your first renewal only, after August 7, 2020, trade in one seat or subscription for two subscriptions (for one named user each) at a cost consistent with what you pay today*. Subscriptions with multi-user plans will retire on August 7, 2021 and cannot be further renewed.

@lena.talkhina - What is the response for customers who have network licenses now, but have 3, 5, or more users per license? For example, a company with 50 engineers who share 8 network licenses of a product.

Under the current scheme, this company will be able to acquire 16 single named user rentals for ±the same annual cost, but their 34 others users will be without a way to use the product that they are now able to use part time. Unless of course the company adds 34 more products to their annual rental, which is a huge cost increase.

Or, can all 50 users have an account and share the 16 single user licenses by logging in and out as needed?

Thanks.

Hi @rkmcswain

If you're talking about all 50 users sharing one Autodesk account, then I'm afraid it's not allowed. Each user assigned needs to use their own Autodesk ID to log in. But of course you can assign and reassign the users as needed. See the Subscription setup FAQ:

Can products with single-user access be reassigned to other users?

Yes, software administrators can reassign users in Autodesk Account as needed. Users cannot share their Autodesk ID's with other individuals. See the Autodesk Terms & Conditions for more information. To learn how to add and remove users, see Add & Remove Users.

Can two users access subscription software on the same computer?

Yes, as long as each person signs in using their own Autodesk ID and password. Also, the administrator must create separate Windows profiles and install the software under each one. Multiple people can then work on the same computer using different profiles.

Hope this helps.

@lynn_zhang

1. I was not talking about 50 users sharing one (1) account, I was talking about 50 named users sharing the 16 licenses they now have access to. So if I understand your answer correctly and I have 50 users and 16 licenses, I would need to spend a large amount of time in our account moving license assignments around from user to user, correct?

2. With the network license manager, the same one we've been using for decades, none of this unneeded license management is needed. Any of the 50 users can access the licenses at any time (up until they are all in use). Then as one user drops a license, another user can access it. They're called "floating" licenses for this reason, hopefully that makes sense.

3. Now, do you understand how this is the exact OPPOSITE of the marketing fluff saying that this move will make license management easier? In fact on that page, it says "No need to manage your own license servers...." That is total nonsense. See point 2 above. There was no "managing" of license servers needed. We set it up once and forgot about it for the duration of the contract.

4. I suppose the answer to this situation is "acquire 34 more licenses" so that all 50 of the users will have their own license. Look at the cost comparison below and explain how this is good for the customer please. With a modest increase in the network licenses every year, but holding the single user cost, it would cost this customer over $321,000 more to have the same software capability, over six years.

Thanks for your time and continued explanations.

Sorry about the broken link and thanks for letting us know! Looks like the FAQ needs to be updated with a new link. I will inform the internal team and have them fix it. For now, all information on User Management is available on this page: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/account-management/users-software/user-management

Also, you can refer to this page for the specific Terms of Use on Subscription with Single User Access: https://www.autodesk.com/company/terms-of-use/en/subscription-types
