It’s a challenging situation for educators relying on Autodesk, especially with the new data privacy regulations in place. Given the importance of student data protection, it might be helpful to explore alternatives that ensure full compliance with state laws. For example, tools that provide access to KY inmate records can offer secure and regulated data management systems. These resources can complement the efforts to maintain data integrity and compliance while ensuring privacy standards are met across different districts and schools.

The along with things like FERPA and SOPPA, the state of Illinois passed legislation HB3606 and starting July 1st, 2021, my public school (along with any other public elementary/high schools in the state of Illinois) will not be in compliance with State laws on student online data collection because Autodesk is "unable to sign individual schools', districts', or states' privacy agreements as it is not possible to ensure compliance with different requirements across many schools or regions."

My district has flat out said "NO" to keeping Autodesk after July 1, 2021 since they will not shift to a state of compliance for data collection that is acceptable according to our state. This poses a large problem as I teach PLTW, 3D Modeling and Animation, and manufacturing and have relied heavily on the Autodesk Suite for the last 10 years.

Are there any other teachers, specifically in Illinois that have heard of this same issue?

What are other non-collegiate schools in Illinois planning to do since this will be against the State Board of Education and state laws?
