Using version 2018 of ASBD

Unable to transfer results - no virtual member, member does not highlight, no drop down box. I am missing something? how do I define this virtual member? Every time I click on the member I get a warning message saying "Beam Members must be assigned", but does not seem like there is anywhere to do that. where is the interface dialog box the Example 5.1 talks about? I cannot select direct ASCII file export.

Any help?

Hi Mark,

This is a line girder analysis so no virtual beam would be available. You should just be able to select the beam in the graphics window to then display the transfer table.

Could you please zip up your data file and attach it to a reply to this thread so that I can investigate. I do remember reading somewhere that this was a possible problem in an earlier version of the software which would have been fixed. What version are you using?

Hi,

Sorry, I noticed that you had already mentioned that you were using version 2018 - which is about 5 years out of date, but I don't think that is the problem.

I have tried a few things and I get the same thing as you if I use Design Sections for the structure properties rather than a Design Beam. For a line girder analysis you can only transfer results back to a Design Beam if you have assigned the structure properties with a beam rather than a section.

If this is the case for you, I'm afraid you will need to create a Design Beam and assign that to the structure and you will then be able to transfer the load effects.

Thanks - updating to 2022 and defining the section in "Beam Definition" as you suggested solved the problem.
