Access Violation Error

I have been tasked with learning how to use Autodesk Bridge design. I have started to use the software, attempting to design a post tensioned beam. Unfortunately the programme keeps shutting down and I receive the error "Access violation" (see attached) when I try to input loading. I tried to restart a new mode, as I assumed I had input the beam properties incorrectly, however now there is no longer an option to design post tensioned beams. Have you ever experienced these errors before?

If you are using SBD 2018 and observe access violation error for post tensioned beams please install 2018.2 Update.

See this forum post.

In case of post-tensioned beams option not available please check the active design code in Options > Design Code and make sure that it is set to British Standards. Post-tensioned beams are not available for all design codes.

Contrary to the last reply. Post-tensioned beam code checking is available for AASHTO LRFD in addition to British Standards.

After ASBD 2018 Service Pack 2 was installed I am still getting the 'Access violation error' (see attachment 1) when attempting to apply loads to the beam. When the British standards design code is selected I am still not able to select the post tensioned beam option (see attachment 2).

Please follow the instructions of this AKN article in relation to the SBD version used by you.

Before using the Registry Editor (regedit.exe), it is important to understand that the system registry contains vital information for the running of the computer. Before you make changes to the registry, ensure you have all your data backed up. You must speak to your IT department before editing the registry as it is possible you will require their permission to make edits.

BTW: I noticed that your screen capture related to the post tensioned beam option not available shows Structural Bridge Design 2017 and not 2018. The screen capture with Access violation error shows SBD 2018. Do you use both versions?

I had installed 2018 initially. Since the ASBD Service Pack 2 didn't work, I uninstalled ASBD 2018 and installed ASBD 2017 hence the different versions.

I have tried the suggestion of using the registry editor however I am getting the same errors as previously explained.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both 2017 and 2018 but I still get the same error.

When the British code is selected, there is no option to design post tensioned beams (please see attached file). When I applied the same rationale of selecting a post tensioned beam on my colleagues computer, the process can be completed, so the problem is not with the method I am using.

Please advise further

Hi Celine

From the screenshots, I think the problem lies with the selection of the Structure Type. Post tensioned beams can only be part of a refined analysis and not line beam type due to need to model the tendons to get the forces. What you can do is save your post tension beam (by creating a linked beam via the link toolbar item on the design beams toolbar, start a new project with structure type set to "Refined Analysis" and then choose "Add existing beam" via the design beam toolbar.
