Hi everybody
In my graduation project i have a big shell covering a wide building
i created that shell in revit structure and that was awesome, but now i need to export it to robot in order to analyze and design it .
All my try to make an analytical model for it failed .
I posted a topic in revit structure form but no one reply to me
http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-structure/conceptual-mass-to-structural-slab-with-analytical-model/td-p/5245595
wish you do .
please check the link
(what is in the link it's just an example )
here is the real one (conceptual mass ) :

Mass objects have no Analytical model so it is not possible to export them to Robot.
You can load this family to project, then export is as a sat file, then in Robot activate ACIS and open saved file.
Robot file attached. Already meshed.

(Too see everything correctly ACIS must be activated in Robot)

Hi Rafal,

How do you 'activate ACIS' in Robot before opening the SAT file?

Or is this something you do after opening the SAT file in Robot?

Thanks,

Dave

Ok, I worked out how to activate ACIS.

Is it possible to import a revit file which contains several masses into Robot as a SAT file, and be able to edit their properties (thickness) independently?

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks,

Dvae

I did try, by copy and pasting Abdullahadi's roof shell a few times. Robot didn't like it.

I'm close to giving up and making the decision to build my freeform shape in Robot.

Hi Rafal,

I have sent you a private message with a link.

The architect has used the following workflow to create the model directly within Revit (no other software used):

Create triangular/circular slab outline from a series of arcs/lines.
Copy this at each floor, editing arc radius and line length (but keeping same number of elements).
‘Loft’ between arcs/lines from bottom to top to create curved surface.
Cap top and bottom and convert to a solid / conceptual mass.
Create and position window solids.
Create new conceptual mass with window openings (there are other ‘masses’ in the model for positioning glazing and other items)
Apply walls to conceptual mass with window openings.

I think that if we can identify the correct mass with window openings, then break it down into discrete panels separated at each slab level and then apply a structural wall to this mass, we could then possibly import it into Robot as a SAT file which will contain separate panels which can have their properties edited in Robot.

Alternatively, if the correct mass can be identified in the architectural model, this could form the basis which could be converted in another program for use in Robot as you suggest. Please note we don’t have Rhino, so would have to use 3D AutoCAD (or possibly 3DS Max).

Many thanks for your help.
