Dear all,

I am fairly new to Revit and robot so please indulge my lack of knowledge.

So here are my questions regarding the transfer of boundary conditions between Revit and robot:

Here is a little video I recorded with sceencast to better present the situation hopefully you'll be able to access it:

https://screencast.autodesk.com/Embed/Timeline/ff6307a4-4525-4a17-910b-032e2aa630d3

There is 3 type of foundations in Revit:

1) Isolated foundation

2) Wall foundation

3) Foundation Slab

There is also 3 types of boundary condition in Revit

1) Point

2) Line

3) Area

Here are there correspondence a found out when transferred to robot:

isolated Foundation transfer into a nodal support (=Point support in Revit)

Wall foundation transfer into a linear support (=Line support in Revit)

Foundation slab does not transfers into a planar support ! Why ?

After running the calculus, the linear foundation gets additional nodal supports.

When the model is transfer back to Revit,

The isolated foundation under the column is updated properly.

Problems occurs with those additional nodal supports along the wall foundation. They are transferred into isolated foundation. Is there a way to avoid that?

The Foundation slab doesn't get any area support... (that sound normal since there where no area support from the beginning). When I put an area boundary condition under the foundation slab it transfer fin to robot. But when after running the calculus i want to update the Revit model, the same thing occurs that with the wall foundation. Every nodal support gets an isolated foundation. Is there a way to avoid that?

The axes are re-created too.. is there a way to avoid that as well?

Well thanks a lot for your time.

If you have any tips I'll much happy to hear from you.

Kind regards

Andrew Pages

Dear Rafal,

Thanks a lot for your quick reply on the foundation slab question.

So as to be 100% sure, the foundation slab doesn't get a "default" boundary condition and therefor has to be manually created?

Then of course the boundary conditions modeled in Revit transfers to Robot (RSA pro).

Problems occurs when the model is transferred back from robot to Revit (as shown in the video).

The linear and planar supports are being transferred back as multiples nodals supports that becoms isolated foundations....

Any leads on how to solve those issues?

Again, thank you so much for your valued help.

Kind regards

Andrew

Dear Rafa,

Thanks for your answer but unfortunately this problem is not avoidable and is not solved yet according to this poste:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/robot-structural-analysis/doublets-created-when-updating-revit-model/m-p/5528007#M30804

"Effects still observed in RSA 2015 SP3"

...

"B. Related to generating in Revit unnecessary isolated foundations - as the scenario below:"

...

"4/ Transfer to Revit: except of defining in Revit the line or area boundary conditions the isolated supports are generated in Revit - corresponding to node positions in Robot where line or surface supports existed

Analogous effects observed when the line or area boundary conditions defined in Revit in step 1/

Both these effects were reported to development team to be improved.

I will update this post when any change is available."

==============

As for what i understand by "except of defining in Revit" means

The isolated foundation created in Revit which include a Nodal support stays as an isolated foundation after being transfert back from robot,

The wall foundation created in Revit which include a linear support stays as a wall foundation after being transfert back from robot. But, during the calculation in Robot, nodes corresponding to the mesh are generated in Robot, those are transferd back as individual foundation.

The foundation slab does not have a area boundary condition and therefor has to be created. But, during the calculation in Robot, nodes corresponding to the mesh are generated in Robot, those are transferd back as individual foundation.

Is it correct or did I miss somthing?
