      <description>&lt;P&gt;Hi All,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I'm slightly confused on how to apply thermal gradient / thermal load.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I have a plate and i would like to just see the effects of the thermal gradient on this plate. This plate is basically a diaphragm wall. My soil temperature is +10 degrees and the exposed side the maximum temperature is 40 degrees.       <description>Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;appreciate the quick reply, i dont seem to understand how the values you have given me, gives me the gradient of 30,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;based on Robot manual, dT1 is the uniform temperature (we can consider it the operating temperature) and gT is the gradient.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Based on that the bottom surface will be [dT1 - gT/2 = 17.5 ] and the top surface is dT1 + gT/2 = 32.5. That does not give me the temp that i require (bottom surface 10 and top surface 40)</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Sorry to answer on a "accepted solution" thread but&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&lt;EM&gt;"dT1 is the uniform temperature (we can consider it the operating temperature)" &lt;/EM&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Just to be clear , dT1 is the dfference between the assembling temperature and the maximum or minimum (or any)temperature that place can reach on a given moment . dT1 ,if positive or negative will have a stretching or retracting effect on the structure plane . &lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Gradient is just the difference between the temperatures above and below strucuture plane , and will give a bending effect on the structure.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;If you want to analyse just the bending effect dT1 should be zero.&lt;BR /&gt;Below a test model with a slab with one fixed edge&amp;nbsp; while the 3 others are free.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Case 1 uniform 20 degrees , case 2 gradient 20 and case 3 unif 20 + grad 20&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Showing global X and global Z displacements for each load case&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P&gt;The goal is to fill the "temperature and gradient" tab in order to satisfy the requested requirements: temperature of the lower face = 10° and upper face = 40°.&lt;BR /&gt;In this thread we have&lt;BR /&gt;- dt1 = 25&lt;BR /&gt;- Gradient = 30° (equivalent to +15° in upper face and -15° in the lower one)&lt;BR /&gt;So we meet the requirement:&lt;BR /&gt;Upper side= 25°+15° = 40°&lt;BR /&gt;Face in = 25° -15° = 10°&lt;/P&gt;</description>
