Greetings

The default values for member and fire emissivity is 0.63 and 0.8 in Robot. From what I can gather from EN 1991-1-2 these should be 0.7 and 1.0.

Is there a reason for this, or perhaps a reference?

Regards,

Robert

https://help.autodesk.com/view/RSAPRO/2024/FRA/?guid=GUID-22B2BC1F-6997-43A1-83FC-B5E4F8BA426E

Indeed, according to Eurocode NF EN 1993-1-2 in chapter 2.2 Actions:

(2) In addition to the provisions given in EN 1991-1-2, the emissivity related to the steel surface should be
equal to 0.7 for carbon steel and equal to 0.4 for stainless steels according to Annex C.

According to NF EN 1991-1-2 in chapter 3.1 General rules: (6) Expression 3.3

NOTE 1 Unless explicitly mentioned in the parts of EN 1992 to EN 1996 and of EN 1999 relating to fire design according to materials, it is possible to take 0.8 as the value of e m.
NOTE 2 The emissivity of fire can be considered as e f = 1.0.

https://help.autodesk.com/view/RSAPRO/2024/FRA/?guid=GUID-22B2BC1F-6997-43A1-83FC-B5E4F8BA426E

Objectively, the emissivity of steel is a function of its surface condition (galvanized, ground, sandblasted, painted, etc.) and its type (stainless steel, mild, etc.). It is also possible that the ENVs did not initially have the same recommended values.

The influence (difference between 0.63 and 0.7 and between 0.8 and 1.0) on the fire calculation of an unprotected steel exposed on four faces must be quite minimal anyway. Apart from a solid document, it is preferable to carry out the calculation with the NF values.

To confirm, see the Autodesk Support people on this forum
