Edit Profiles/Boundary

-Tend to do this if it is a prefab element.

Wall/Vertical Openings

-Wall openings if it is something that will be created on site (new opening in the wall) and is of rectangular shape.

Shafts

-If it has to cross several floors and needs to stay aligned (utility shafts, elevators).

Host based family

-Used for openings like pass through of pipes/ducts (works well for Dynamo script to automate placement).

But these are general rules where I easily can deviate from if impractical or other solution is faster/eassier.

Voids tend to have bigger impact on performance. So might avoid them (especially when used in large quantities).

Might also be discussed with other companies/teams/modellers what preferred methods are.

Hi,

I was looking for peoples preferences and justifications for choosing from the optional methods for driving openings through floors/walls where the choices are:

Edit Profiles/Boundary

Wall/Vertical Openings

Shaft

Host based family

Thanks,

Chris

For Floor opening specifically at Lifts shaft I would prefer to use shaft opening as you can have added advantage to use the symbolic line to represent void, if you don't use this you will end up drawing manually 2d linework and you need to do on each floor where ever you have manually edit the floor.
