Thanks for considering, but I've also tried it manually, not with dynamo, joining the wall with the floor - same result.

Hi all,

I've been joining interior walls to the finishing floor layers to have them cut through everything above the structural part, so I don't have to draw the sketch of my finishing around each wall. This worked fine I thought, according to this section:

Now, when I isolate these walls in 3D I've noticed the floors isn't actually cut and the part of the wall that should cut the floor is missing. This is the case until I switch the join order.

After switching the join order the section looks exactly the same, but the floor is actually cut by the wall. Because the section looks the same it means there is no way I can tell my join order is correct.

Could anyone explain this mechanism? I have no clue why the first section looked correct when in fact the wall was not cutting the floor at all.

I do not know how you Joined the Walls to the Floor of what method you used but there is a priority when Floor and Wall/Beams are joined.

Do you have different floor Build-ups? One for the Structural Element and the other for everything above? It could be that although they were joined, they were not cut but would not explain the Section showing this?

Hi Jay, that's right: two build-ups, structural and everything above. I'm aware of the priority, but if the floor was prior to the wall the section would look differently right? Now in both join orders the wall cuts through the floor (in section!).

I cannot really explain it other than the Section was taken at a location where it was not cut such as a doorway?

In the instance below I have 2 identical Floors and used Attach Base and joined the Wall to the Bottom Floor but as you can see if goes through the Upper Floor

I then have to Cut the Upper Floor with the Wall Picking the Floor First then the Wall to get the desired result!

This is how I would achieve that result as the walls base is deterring by the slab so has an association so if it changes position of thickness the wall adjusts

the section was taken at a relevant point (believe me, I've tried a dozen of different sections).

I've joined all my interior walls with the floors they are intersecting with (= the part with everything above structure) - I've used dynamo to do this for +1000 walls. I could now switch their join order also with dynamo, but that also switches the orders that were correct. The problem is there's is no logical way of doing a check since the sections look exactly the same no matter the join order.

I was taking a guess at the sections but you explanation is clear and that means it must have been a section where it was one of the correct joins!

And I knew there was something more than just Standard Revit Tools.

I can only then suggest that Dynamo is driving the anomaly, it could be the way the walls were drawn Start - End or if copied lost original association at some point?

I’m really not sure then, I can only think it is picking the bottom of one floor face and the top of the other!

Maybe try turning off the upper floor when joining to the bottom one?
Try my process above manually!
