unable to modify structural column base level/offset/top

Hi All,

I'm a beginner to Revit and apologies if this has been answered elsewhere already.

I'm attempting to recreate an AUTOCAD drawing i've produced in Revit.

I've imported the CAD drawing into Revit and now inserting structural columns.

I'm unable to edit the column height/base level/ base offset etc. Said columns are not visible on the floor plans, but visible on the 3d view.

Please advise.

Looks like you were in the Floor Plan (Architectural plan) for level 2, You need to be in the Structural Plan for Level 2, then you can see it, select it and can edit the base and top constraint.

You can see it in the 3D view so you could also select it and edit it inn the 3D view

Thank you for your reply Alan.

I'm able to view the column on the structural plan, but still unable to edit the column heights/offset etc.

I've inserted some basic external walls and also unable to edit these also?

I'm not sure as to why these elements are not editable?
I've attached the Revit file to the post.

I have opened your model and I can edit the base and top constraints and offset.

So I'm not sure what you are doing wrong (or not doing)

In the 3D view I have your column selected and in the properties palette can edit the base and top levels and offset

Hi Alan,

Many thanks for your reply and patience.
I've attached an extract below where i've selected the column (highlighted in blue) i'd like to adjust, however i'm not able to adjust the height etc as you have.

I've started a new file, inserted only girds and columns and i've been unable to adjust the columns again.

Could you please advise?

You might need to add more levels, so that you can change the base and top level of the column or wall,

but even at the point you are at you should be able to edit the base and top offset.

When you start your project add the number of levels required (in an elevation), and then add your grids.

Then you can add columns and walls etc...

Thank you again for your reply and comments.

I've added in additional levels.

Revit has suddenly allowed me to adjust the column height. Extract attached.

I'm not sure what i've done (or not) differently but it appears to have self resolved!

This was already answered, However, I am trying to give you some additional light.

I have verified the column height, and it works very well; you have already added Level 0 to Level 3. You can also be able to change the base or top offset.

Please see the snap, I think you should check the help of the option if you don't know how to place and modify properties for Revit for any items such as column or beam, footing, etc.

Hi!

For the further users experience on this topic there is one more possible issue - column reference levels are not editable if elements are grouped. Just ungroup, edit reference levels and group again if necessary.

I am not sure the Structural Column Category is applicably to this Family as its function is different of that than a Standard Column that uses Levels as References to adjust heights/levels/etc.

I would possibly categorise as a Structural Connection Family or created as a Custom Structural Connection to attach to a Column?

Hi there, Thank you Jay. I used the structural column because I didn't find
a "custom structural connection Family in my Revit 2024" I've attached a
screenshot of the family templates I have. May I be missing some, can you
please advise. I am also new with Revit.

You start with a Generic Family (based on how it is to work - Level/Hosted/etc.) and change the Family Category when inside the Family.

I always advise other to Start with an Existing Family of similar usage as most of the Parameters are already in the Family and the correct Categorisation already applied and then edit for your needs.

There are a few for Structural Connections in the Default Content library

This was the issue for me. Pasted outside the group, adjusted, then opened the group and used the Add option
