I have linked an Autocad file which has an OS map into my project, for use in a Site Location view. When I close the project and re-open it, the map no longer appears in this view. To get it back, I open the view, change orientation "True North" to "Project North", reload the linked file and change orientation back to True North.

How can I ensure that the linked file stays in position?

Link it in a Site plan oriented Project North, center to center, move it to align with your model, and Acquire Coordinates.

You were missing some step along the workflow, or doing them incorrectly. Try again from the beginning.

I think it's because the file has limits greater than 30 miles - seems to be a problem for Revit.

Do you have multiple CAD links in the same revit project?
This happens to me if several links are in the project and they are not "created from the same source". I would explain that in way, that the same source should always be the original geodetic plan.. and then from that geodetic CAD file, duplicate all the other links.
