Beam Column join in section

hello,

I'm having trouble correctly diplaying concrete beam/column join in sections.

In section 1 columns properly join the slab, but in section 5 beams and columns join, while slab is seperate. It seems like a simple fix but i can't get switching join to fix it.

Is there a way to display column in section 5 the same way as section 1?

1. Check Section 5’s view settings

Set Section 5 to:

Detail Level: Fine
The same Discipline and View Template as Section 1
The same visual style and visibility settings

Different detail levels can make a concrete connection appear differently even when the geometry is correct.

Beam Priority Inconsistent in Section + 1

2. Verify the physical intersection in 3D

Open a 3D view, isolate the slab, column, and beam, and inspect the connection around Section 5.

Check that:

The column is not stopping just below or above the slab.
The slab is not slightly offset from the column.
The slab boundary has not stopped short of the column.
The beam and slab are not merely touching at coincident faces.
All elements belong to the same model—not a linked model.

If necessary, extend the column through the slab or correct its Base/Top Constraint and offsets so that the solid geometry actually intersects.

3. Join the slab and column directly

In Revit:

Go to Modify → Geometry → Join Geometry.
Select the slab and the column.
Repeat the operation for the slab and beam, if required.
If Revit reports that they are already joined, use Switch Join Order on that pair.

The Beam/Column Join tool does not replace the slab–column Join Geometry operation.

If the existing join is incorrect, use:

Unjoin Geometry
Join Geometry
Switch Join Order, if the cut direction is still wrong

4. Check the materials

For a clean concrete connection, the slab, beam, and column should use the same Revit material—not merely materials with identical appearance settings. Different materials can leave a visible line even when the elements are geometrically joined.

For custom beam or column families, open the family and verify:

The actual 3D geometry has a material assigned.
Material for Model Behavior is set to Concrete, where applicable.
The geometry is solid and not only symbolic or nested non-solid geometry.

5. Compare the section cut locations

A join is a model relationship, not something normally configured separately for each section. If the same slab and column are correctly joined, they should generally clean up in both sections.

Therefore, if Section 1 works and Section 5 does not, Section 5 may be cutting:

A different column or slab instance
The end of the slab
The side of a beam rather than its main solid
A location where the slab and column do not actually overlap
A portion modeled as Parts or coming from a linked file

Quick diagnosis

Result Likely cause

Join Geometry succeeds but a line remains	Different materials, view detail level, or the section cuts a different location
Revit says the elements cannot be joined	Gap, no actual solid intersection, linked model, or non-solid family geometry
They are already joined but the wrong element appears continuous	Use Switch Join Order
The connection works only in one section	Section 5 is likely cutting different geometry or has different view settings

Do not use a masking region or detail line as the permanent solution unless the slab–column separation represents an intentional construction joint. The first thing to verify is whether the slab solid actually overlaps the column at the Section 5 location in a Fine-detail 3D view.

Thank you for your responce, unfortunately i can't fix the view. Both views are on the same column with same view template, same material.

Hi something does not look right here and the only defining difference between the 2 sections is the Far Clip Offset in Section 1

Creating a similar scenario in a Structural Template you can see my beams are more uniform in the dashes coming into the column where yours are not do they go over the top of the column rather than meet at it??

But you can overcome them by using Switch Join Order between the Beams and the Column in Section 5

Not really, I guess there is something wrong with my materials, other projects and sections work just fine, so I just deleted this one, it was a test project anyways.

I would suggest this is more driven how it was modelled in conjunction with View and Template settings and overrides applied to said views. Happy to take a look if you wish to share the small example/test?

Changing the beam material fixed the issue, i kept colum and slab as same material. Don't know why i didn't try it sooner.

Switch Join Order should have achieved the same result with the SAME material - but glad you have your own solution
