Can someone explain how the stairs behave with view range

they still appears even if outside of view range

Revit has visibility controls for lines above the cut plain, but not for lines below the bottom of the view range. I sure wish it did, but it doesn't

So, you would like to manage how you see the stairs. You have a few choices:

1. Adjust the visibility graphics of the view and uncheck the string, stairs beyond cut line.

2. You can also use the linework tool, set to invisible lines, to hide parts of the stair you don't want to see. You can drag the edges to extend the lines.

3. Hide the stair and use draft lines for the part you would like to see.

Working in Revit 2018 and Revit 2020.

The "Stairs Beyond Cut Line" category doesn't exist when I look under the stairs category in V/G. Was this function removed?

In revit 2018+ try going on VG and unchecking any stairs items (on the stair drop down) that say 'above' which would be above the cut line. Doesn't completely solve it but does make it clearer.

Ah. I misread the previous comment and wasn't aware this is only for items above the cut line.
