Good Afternoon, how does one reinforce a circular foundation with a South african shape code 60 (Stirrup)
i only get a straight bar option and not a stirrup option?

Hi @jd58A9G

If you mean placing the stirrup radially inside the circular foundation, then you can use aligned distribution free form rebar, selecting the side faces and the circular edge as the distribution path.

For that shape, you can add 90 deg hooks and set the style to stirrup/tie on placement.

If you set the Workshop Instructions to Bend, it will match the shape 60 you have loaded into the project and report the segment lengths

That shape is still a column shape, This is what it should look like with the stirrup shape

So i did that, workshop to bend and style to stirrup, but then the shape box is grayed out, and it just says rebar shape 1, so i guess i should learn how to edit that family to make it a stirrup?

If you have the shape that the bar geometry matches to loaded in the project, it will match to that. Otherwise it will create a new shape, which is what seems to happen in your case. M_T2 in the default metric library looks very similar to that shape 60 you mentioned. You may just need to change the assigned segment lengths in the shape family

It creates a new family when a choose bend and stirrup, when i edit the family, theres only one line, when i give it new rebar segments to match what the shape 60 has, A & B, it throws out an error, delete rebar.

Ive added a wall with a foundation that's reinforced with the stirrups i want.

Then one circular foundation base with the work around i did for our company to get the drawings issued.

added a stirrup, created the amount i needed and changed it so it just showed 1 instance off it on plan.

Then another circular foundation with the free form option , where it only shows the straight bar (Shape Code 20 for me) that i need to look the exact same as the other bars.

You need to select all the side faces when placing the aligned distribution. Those define the bar and are producing the 4 segments.

You should also turn on the option to include hooks in the rebar shape definition.

Otherwise, matching ignores hooks, which is not correct.

In your file, shape 60 had the style set to standard. It should probably be Stirrup and also have hooks.

I edited the family as shown below. I also added the hook lengths to report as C and D. This allows you to override the lengths when the shape is used in the project

When placing and setting it to stirrup, bend and with hooks, it matches to shape 60 and reports the segment lengths.

Unlike shape driven, free form gets the geometry from the host. It's properties can be configured during or after placement. All are taken into account when doing the matching.

That worked great, last question, when the include hooks option is grayed out, how do i check in on?

You can change that option if no bars exist in the project.

In your example i cut all the elements (Ctrl+X), changed the option and pasted them in the same place.

Ideally you set this option in your template and at the beginning of the project.

Hi there I'm struggling to create free form reinforcement for a (modeled in place - Revolved structural foundation) it's basically a sloping raft slab with piles.

why can I not choose the rebar shape-code for the freeform before or after? can someone please advise if this is even possible.

(I have tried to do it according to the previously shared test.rvt model and even copied it into my model to propagate "verry unethical" alas it did not work)
