In my oppinion, this is something that has to be taken care of in the early stages of the project. The Client will need to understand that when they demand the project to be modelled in Revit, there are limits what is possible with DWG files if drawings are also made within revit.

But usually the client will be demanding BIM, but that brings back the discussion, what is BIM ? Revit itself is not BIM or visa versa although many seem to think so. So you can ask yourself if Revit is the right product for the specific project.

For now, a solution that would be possible, is to make sure you have some spot coordinates set on the plan view that is on the sheet. Most likely you have about 1 or 2 plan views on most of your sheets.

After exporting, you can just leave the section views as they are (as these wont need coordinates), and move the plan view to its coordinates with the help of the spot coordinates that you have set within revit. After that you will need to reset the viewport in paperspace correct again.
Sadly this is the only workaround that i can think of right now to get your coordinates system correct for exported DWG files.

you said: "AutoCAD and Revit are both from the 'same kitchen' so why can it not be provide in a decent way? What would be the workaround from a revit point of view?"

Actually this is not entirely true. Revit was bought in 2002 by Autodesk when it was already a developed product, while Autocad was developed by Autodesk itself.

some background info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autodesk_Revit

So that may be (or may not be) the reason why its not fully intergrated with eachother.

Most BIM engineers working in a Civil environment will agree that drawing and modelling according to the national (local) coordinate system is vital for coordination. Mostly, in Civil3D or AutoCAD or other programms the top view is by default drawn in coordinates (at least one!). The problem i encounter is that I find it still impossible to export sheet in a right way to accomplish this. Using and translating the 'shared coordinat' setting of the sheet.

There are three options or methods for translation to DWG

1. Export sheet as one DWG => result: not in coordinats

2 Export sheet with views as XREF DWG => result: not in coordinats

3. Export a single view => result : ok

Without having to do a lot of work to put together the DWG views/ xrefs and moving data... how does one export sheets in a decent way so coordinats are respected and the DWG files can be send to stakeholders as a selection of the data set?

Thanks in regard

Hans

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6-6JB1a0xTcX29pVHdfa2tidXc/view?usp=sharing

As far as i know, sheets themselves cant be exported to coordinates. I think it has something to do with the fact that you can have multiple top views/sections looking down, and thus would have overlapping exported data.

To export views to coordinates, for example plan vies, you have to export the seperate view.

Most of the time when you want to xref someting, you dont want to underlay a full sheet, but just a single view.

That is true, most of the time you indeed use one only the topview (xclip the full drawing or use only the single viewport). But the problem is that most of the time contracts demand the full drawing as DWG (so, this is the sheet as export). With that the status, checked all views etc. As the pdf drawing. PDF and full drawing DWG till now are the only provided formats (no native models).

So if these exports these are not in coordinats there is the problem that the demands. They do not meet with the full requirement as discribed in the (dutch) CAD standard (NLCS). Who is going to make the effort (pays) to get the topviews correcton cordinats?

AutoCAD and Revit are both from the 'same kitchen' so why can it not be provide in a decent way? What would be the workaround from a revit point of view?
