Beam Tags - Unwanted Spaces and different letter cases in tag

Hello,

Working with Revit 2015. at a Novice level.

Having a problem with Structural Framing tags. When placing tags (whether tagging by category or beam annotations), the results show unwanted spaces in the label... and not on all members either. I also get text case variations as well.

Ex.

Tagging a W12x26 member I get W 12x26.

Tagging a W12x53 member I get W12X53.

I would like them all to read WXXxXX format.

When placing by the tag by category, I sometimes get the word wrap affect...W on top then 12x26 on bottom where it should be single line???

When I look up our database of members they seem to all read the same....i.e. W12x53....no spaces "case" changes for different sizes.

When I try to modify the label...the sample value is set to "1i" and no place to see where spaces would be coming from.

Hello Chem-Jerry,

Please check the tag:

- Which parameter is added to the tag?

- Is there only one Label parameter in the tag or more than one? (1.)

- If only one: Compare the value, e.g. the Family Type Name and delete spaces here.

There is a line break if the bounding box of the Label ends (2.). Edit the family, activate the Label and expand the frame. Afterwards reload it to the project.

Tried expanded the text box, reloading, and re-invoking the beam annotations command and that did not work

Attached is what it looks like in edit mode and what my dwg is actually showing.

Hey,

You have to rename the Type Names of your beams. Please activate a beam with spacings in the tag. Click on Edit Type and then Rename. Delete the spaces in its name and they will disapear in the tags. Does that work?

Expanding the text box is just needed if the value is not shown in one line.

Although I wouldn't recommend directly re-naming steel beams. The out-of-the-box family at least uses a type catalog, which means it draws parameter values from a text file. You're better off verifying the contents of the type catalog, and using Insert/Reload Family to bring in the correct types.

There's one for each family, located in the same folder as the RFA file. Below is a screenshot from the default Revit library (I found mine at C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2016\Libraries\US Imperial\Structural Framing\Steel)

Before you go editing any of these, though, I recommend you read up on them...try here, here, here, and here.
