I used the Revolve tool to create a componant (basically, a dome), and I have placed it next to an architectural wall (at the same height and everything.

2 questions:

1: How do I constrain the center of my dome to the midpoint of an architectural wall (I want to allign it using an architectural wall, then delete the wall, leaving the dome in the correct place

and 2: How can I extrude my wall to my dome (so it doesn't extrude INTO it, but there is no space between the wall and the dome), similar to the "Extrude to Fit" tool in Autodesk Inventor?

Can include pictures if needed

Thanks

Can do!

Model is attached (RevProbMod.rvt)

Right now, I have this:

First, I am trying to move the reverse dome such that the center-point is equivilent to the mid-point of the two corners. I did this with a CIRCLE, drawing a line between corners and draging my circle over the midpoint like so:

and the circle connects to the wall above it (as it is supposed to).

When I have tried that with my reverse dome, it never snaps to mid-point.

Second, once I get my dome in position (similar to the second picture, but attached), I want to extrude my wall to the curve of the dome (similar to Inventor Professional, with Extrude to Fit). How could I go about doing that?

Thanks

The only way I can make the reverse dome move exactly where I want was to edit it in place to add two reference planes that designate the center of the dome. After doing this, you can use the move command to pick the intersection of the two reference planes and move the dome to the midpoint of a reference you draw from one corner of the room to the other.

As for making the adjacent walls "extrude" to the shape of the reverse dome, you will have to look at the wall in flat elevation view, select the wall, then choose edit profile to draw the shape of the curve wall portion using the pick line command.

A different approach

Basically what I have done:

Edit the revolve and add some reference planes. (This will allow to place it on the center of something.)

Copy the profile of the revolve profile to the clipboard.

Create a family and create a void form, based on the revolve profile.

Load family in the project.

Cut wall with void.
