Duplicate solid fill patterns

Hello,

I was wondering if someone at Autodesk could offer us their help regarding a serious issue we are encountering in our Revit model. Our file seems to be duplicating SOLID FILL pattern values. We had started our project with an Italian language template, and have subsequently shifted to an English version of Revit, thus keeping the italian RIEMPIMENTO SOLIDO pattern value. Our model has thereafter duplicated the RIEMPIMENTO SOLIDO fill pattern creating a RIEMPIMENTO SOLIDO 1 pattern, which we could not remove or alter in any way. We had been going on for months with duplicate Italian solid fill pattern values, which although they somewhat burdened our model, did not affect it in any other way. The problem magnified recently, when our model multiplied solid fill values (as well as some other editable pattern which we were able to delete, fortunately), unexpectedly, and without us acting upon it in any way different from the ordinary. The solid fill patterns count has now reached 67, multiplying itself in recent days. This is of course substantially burdening our model, which is becoming very difficult to work with, as well as showing no signs of stopping.

Could anyone offer their advice on the matter?

For easier comprehension of the problem, I attach a screenshot of our fill patterns dialog box.

Thank you

Filip

Hi Filip,

Can you please let us know what version of Revit you are working with? Both the release number (2014, 2015, 2016...) and the Service Pack or Update Release number?

Also, what language do you have Revit set to use?

Thanks,

Thanks for your response.

Are you using templates and families that originate in Revit 2016, or are you upgrading them from an earlier version?

Also, are you using any Addons to Revit? We have seen situations where Addons can duplicate the default Solid Fill pattern.

@Anonymous

Service Pack 2 is pretty much outdated ... you might want to consider updating to R2 + UPD 1 to 3 (I do not recommend UPD 4)

Second; I have to agree with Joe on the addon issue. ARE YOU SURE YOU DO NOT HAVE ANY HATCH/PATTERN ADDON INSTALLED? Revit on it's own does not duplicate patterns; but Addon Scripts/Macros/API do (well Dynamo can too if wrongly coded or used some custom node from some untrusted source)

we have of course tried out and are using different revit addons (mostly of structural nature), as I suppose anyone working with structures in revit is using, and all of which are either made by or approved by autodesk, and none of which have nothing to do with hatch patterns.
anyway, as far as I can recall the problem had originally taken place before most (if not all) of the addins that we use had been installed, and its unexpected aggravation is not concurrent with any new extension additions by our part.
as far as the service pack is concerned, we could try to update our software version, and will most certainly do so if that proves to be the cause of our problems (a thing I seriously doubt, honestly). however, I do not believe that a new service pack would do anything in solving the issue with our current file, a matter which remains an urgent priority.

I don't understand why autodesk is trying to avoid the question at hand which is very simple. No add-in should be the problem in this question.

The question is very simple:

we need 1 solid fill pattern to be present in the project so why is it not possible to delete the duplicate solid fill patterns?

From my knowledge of the databases structure, I will try to explain the issue in a simplified way.

Inside the database's table of patterns, the row of "solid fill" have row ID = 1 and the lock value set to true which prevent it from being modified (renamed/duplicated/deleted).

Since this project was started in italian and then switched to english, the field that is locked and having ID=1 is not called "solid fill", but is called "RIEMPIMENTO SOLIDO". However, Revit will continually check if row id 1 is equal to "solid fill", and if not found will insert the "solid fill" row.

Since patterns can be created by users, this mean we can have unlimited number of patterns, therefore the field "ID" have auto-increment value which means it will count the number of rows, then the new inserted row will have the ID equal to (count + 1).

THIS IS A DATABASE ISSUE

Solution: Autodesk support should take the file, edit the database and change the title of first row from "RIEMPIMENTO SOLIDO" to "SOLID FILL".

Normally in Revit, you can delete all patterns except "solid fill" due to the reason I explained above. So your problem is happening due to database error and you will not be able to delete any of those sold fill patterns without modifying the database itself.

It's year 2018, and the problem is the same.

I think there's a problem with Revit with the possibility to defin the same parameter from very different sources.

In a standard project I have Link models, Inserted CADs for reference, profile families inserted into nested families insterted into families inserted into the project, upgraded families from 2009 or whenever, there are adds on, there are many things to develop the job...but every single one of those things have their own Region Patterns, Units, Line Patters, Materials, Assets.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/cleaner-insert-family-views-transfer-standards-etc/idi-p/7872920

Is imperative to have a much cleaner way to manage information in this information software.
