Dear Rafal, thank you very much for your reply.

Honestly I haven't used the Analytical Model within Model-in-Place. Looks like a useful tool so, I would think it only makes sense to add that ability to the Family Editor and not only the Model-in-Place editor. I usually use this options for complex concrete structures but not for framing. I'll look for a use for this but, the solution exists in Revit language. If only that Analytical Model line were available in the Family Editor.

Thanks again and best regards.

Saul Cuen

Hi everyone.

This issue is regarding structural families. Right now I'm trying to create a FRAMING family (Structural Framing - Beams and Braces template) in which will be another FRAMING components (again Structural Framing - Beams and Braces based) nested.

The historic problem I have dealed with since 2010 is, I cannot flex the length of the nested beam properly or, can flex the length but is unconstrained once I change types by parameter.

The solution of many of us would be used another family template, in fact, I already "solve" this issue by using Generic Model line based template, and changing the FAMILY CATEGORY to framing.

My problem is, if I use Structural Framing - Beams and Braces template and check the SHARE parameter for the nested framings, the HOST framing once inserted into a project, will have the analytical of all those nested framings. Using Generic Model line based template, Structural Framing - Complex and Trusses or Structural Stiffener Line Based, and changing the category will not achieve this that for me is a very important issue.

If not, I have to model the ANALYTICAL MODEL manually using framings and columns, then, erase those framings and columns and finally inserting a CUSTOM FRAMING FAMILY that behaves graphically as I need it (also in matters of take off, annotations, symbols, etc. Thats why I need the custom family).

Or...is it even possible to create a family and customize the analytical model?

Thank you all

Regards.

Saul Cuen

Dear Saul

In addition to your foundings:

You should be able to add the analytical line while defining the in-place structural beam or column element. It will be a Analytical Model [Projection Line]. Create the solid shape, then before selecting to Finish Model (Green Check Box), choose the Model line Button from the In-Place Modeling Panel. Then use the Analytical Model [Project Line] Type to draw in your analytical line.
Then Finish Model....Hope this helps you out!
