I am recreating a building in Revit 2017 to do some structural analysis on it. The building was built using ASTM A36 steel. When I model the structure with A36 I get the following message from the Structural Analysis cloud: "An incorrect material has been used - steel strength is less than 345MPa (50ksi)." How do I get the cloud analysis to work with ASTM A36?

Hello d.aguiarN9TSY,

Did you double check your material properties in Revit's Material Browser? Perhaps something was edited there and you did not notice. For my experience with the Structural Analysis cloud, it reads automatically the materials assigned in Revit model.

Yes, I checked the material browser. The strength for ASTM A36 is less than 50ksi, but that is the correct property of the material. ASTM A992 has replaced A36 but that is no reason not to do an analysis on it. Hopefully Autodesk will get back to me.

Hello d.aguiarN9TSY that's a strange error indeed. I did not pay attention that A36 has yield strenght less than 50ksi, that's why I suggested to check Material Browser. Anyway, I made some tests here and tried to run an example in Structural Analysis Cloud with a A36 steel, as configured below:

I did manage to run on cloud and get the results without any problem. I am using Revit 2016, however.

But I can't think of any explanation for this error, why would the app impose a limitation to steel strength for structural analysis?
