Hi,

A number of us in the office are now encountering Revit 2017 crash every time a project is closed.

"Autodesk Revit has stopped working"

not specific to a particular project or build (2017.2 and 2017.2.1)

happens both on PC and bootcamp.

if any one knows a fix that would be great.

thanks,

Pete

Hello Peter,

Thank you for the post, since you state it is not project or version related it is a hard question. This does make me think it has to do with an add-in, but from now on it will be narrowing down to the issue.

The following process should narrow down which add-in is causing the issue

Go to C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\#### (Replacing # with the version you are working with)

Copy all the add-ins in the folder to the desktop.

Delete the add-ins in the original folder.

Relaunch Revit to see if the crashing continues.

If it does not, copy the Add-in files back to the original location, launching and closing Revit after each Add-in is put back in the folder to see which one is causing the issue.

Once you find the offending Add-in verify that it should be compatible with the current version of Revit (from the add-in manufacturer), and if so try uninstalling it through the Control Panel, and then reinstalling it.

If my post answers your question, please click the "Accept as Solution" button. This helps everyone find answers more quickly!

After a Windows update last night Revit started crashing when I closed a program.

Reading the comments in this post I immediatly removed Site Designer and it did the trick.

So if anyone else encounters this problem, SD is probably the culprit (and the Windows update).

Hello Andrew,

First of all, best wishes for 2018.

Strange that it suddenly happens, and since yesterday there have been no updates or installations on the computer?

At this moment I would suggest the same solution, to start with Site designer and Precast (if you have this one installed). I know Site designer and Precast add-in both have some issues in Revit 2018.2 at this moment. It would be strange though that it suddenly happens.

Would love to hear if it worked out for you.

Josha, firstly apologies I should also have wished you a Happy New Year. However, you have solved the problem, Site Designer was the culprit as for others. I have therefore moved the addin to my desktop. What I find hard to understand is why Autodesk appear to do nothing about resolving these issues which spoil the use of a very good, but costly, piece of software? I have already had to remove the P&ID addin in the last month because of issues raised in an earlier post.

Still thank you, it is much appreciated. Andrew
