I m trying to place a Shape code 25 bar set @ 150 centres along the path of the dimension shown in attached image. However I only seem to be able to place it vertically into the page, or with the legs vertically sticking out of the slab rather than horizontally. Does anyone know a work around for this? I have been using sections to place the bar but attached the plan view to indicate what I am trying to achieve.

Hopefully I have explained the problem

Thanks in advance for any help

Thanks for taking a look. I have pasted the geometry into a new file for upload. You will see I have modelled 5 seperate bars and created a manual tag as a work around but would obviously prefer to group the bars and tag them "properly" rather than having to hide bars from the view, which could cause issues if there are revisions in the future.

Thanks

So what is the exact problem with this , please more clarification what do you want to do ?

The L-bars are fine its the cranked bars, I would like to place them as one set of bars rather than 5 manually, for tagging and scheduling purposes. But if you try and place them as maximum spacing or fixed number the crank rotates to be vertical into the slab.

Any shape driven rebar in Revit is defined by a bar plane in which the bar segments are sketched.

When you have a set with multiple bars, those bars are distributed such that all the planes of the bars in the set are parallel.

In the image below, you can see the pre-highlighed L bars showing a rectangular outline of the planes at each end of the set.

One way to achieve your desired result is to use free form rebar.

You would need to create an additional object that can host rebar and define the set.

More info here

One thing to note here, is that free form rebar currently is intended for bars that are delivered as straight bars to the site. This means that the shape code is locked at 00.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your response.

Is the Free form placement an update in the 2018 version of Revit? We aren't currently using this in our office.

Also is it possible to include hook geometry in a schedule, as for the case above I would need to specify the A, B, C and D dimensions.

Thanks

Free form rebar is available starting with Revit 2018.1.

You can use hooks, however the length reported in the schedule is the total length of each bar in the set (including hooks).

Currently it works as shape 00, so no individual segment lengths.
