Copy/Monitor (Best practices)

Hey guys!

How do you Copy/Monitoring walls from an Architectural project?

I've been trying to copy just the "useful walls", but then I always have to copy more walls because I chose wrongly.

Should I copy everything as Generic or maybe as "Copy original Type"? Tell me how you do this

Thanks, but that link is to vague.

I know how to use the this feature, I just want to know how you guys use it.

I don't usually get well drawn architectural projects, usually is kinda messy and "weird made"

The best practice of using Copy/Monitor NOT USING IT, except for for bringing in Grids and Levels from the Architectural model. Can you clarify what items you usually bring in aside from the above?

@ToanDN I'm doing what I learned in a Autodesk Course...

I bring in Grids (when they exist), Levels, Walls, Openings and floor. I bring floor to bring the walls properly, otherwise they come different from the architect model.

What do you do with the walls? Do you draw them?

If I were a MEP engineer I would link the Architectural and Structural models in my MEP model and place face based or workplane based equipment/fixtures directly on the links. If they modeled their parts incorrectly then you can tell them to correct their models. It is their responsibility, not yours to get their parts right. It is call coordination and collaboration.

There always exceptions to every rule and there will come the times when you do need to copy/monitor walls/floors/etc in your model. In such cases, put them in a dedicated workset so that it can be turned off/excluded while running clash detection and the like.

I see, so you normally draw all the wall again? With the same opening and high and shapes? How do you do that?

I'm really interesting in find new ways to use Revit 🙂

What I would do was said in Post #7 above. No, I would not bring in their walls or any building components via Copy/Monitor. Use their links and the reference to place equipment/fixtures.
