OK.... After a bit more investigation, I have noticed that when inserted into the project, I can remove the rotation by selecting the adaptive points and then un-ticking the "driven by host" box. Is there a way to prevent from being "driven by host" in the first place ?

Adaptive Point Unwanted Rotation ?

Hi.... I have created a generic model using adaptive points to simplistically model below ground drainage, which generally works as I want it to but with one small irritation. The model is basically two adaptive points with a reference line between and a circular form running between the two points.

The problem is that when I place the model, it seems to slightly rotate even though I have the "always vertical" box ticked in the family.

Screen shots attached to hopefully demonstrate the problem.

Does anyone know how to deal with this issue ?

Thanks

Hi Dean,

Thank you for taking your time to post this on the forum,

I've had a look at it here locally and can't seem to get the same result as you, perhaps I'm missing a few things.
Could either share the family or provide me a few steps to get the same result as you?

Best Regards,

Play with these options see which one works. My bet is on the one I highlighted.

Hi Jacob,

I managed to resolve the issue by deselecting the "driven by host" box. I think the problem was that I was placing an adaptive component between two objects that were both positioned horizontally but at different levels and not directly in line either. I suspect It may have been that the "place on face" placement method was overriding the "keep vertical" option because strictly speaking it couldn't comply with all of the criteria. When I deselected the driven by host option at one of the ends, the component rotated to vertical.

I could be wrong/misunderstanding something but that's my best assessment of the problem.

Thanks ToanDN, I tried tinkering with those settings but neither seemed to solve the issue. I think I have worked out what the problem was (see post above), but it's difficult for me to be absolutely sure. I've got a way of dealing with it anyway so that's the main thing.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hi ToanDN,

I have attached two families, a manhole family and a drainage pipe family (both created as generic models). The way I use these is that the manhole family is placed in the project at varying levels as applicable and then the drain run family is placed between the centres of each manhole base (top of concrete base) using the snap to midpoint method (a reference line is set up in the manhole family to allow me to snap to it this way). Then the drain run family is placed using the "Place on face" placement method. If the pipe is then viewed in section, you should see it has rotated slightly.

Let me know how you get on.
