Hi Adam,

We explained some of the situations in which warning messages appear.

The explanations are available in the help document:

http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2018/ENU/?guid=GUID-A1EF6B1A-BF7F-435E-9DB3-0577F88C954B

If you attach a picture with the model, I can have a better understanding of what you are trying to achieve and I may point you to a suitable steel connection or give you a workaround.

I'm trying to create a connection where I have a steel column sitting on a steel beam. Fairly standard you would think.

If I create a base plate I can't change the anchors to normal bolts? There doesn't seam to be anyway of creating this type of connection??

I'm finding the whole connection package very slow and clunky to say the least.

Anyone got any solutions for this problem?

Hello Adam,

For the situation that you are describing, the Gable Wall End Plate steel connection is more suitable.

Please see bellow picture:

Hope this helps you,

That doesn’t work either. It put a yellow exclamation mark and the dialog box says “connection creation failed”

Why can’t there just be a simple “Column ON Beam” connection? Surely this is a VERY common connection?

Or simply add the ability to change the "Anchors" for normal bolts!

As I've explained I have a column on top of a beam which needs a base plate with 4 bolts to connect it to the beam. This is probably one of the simplest and most common connections in structural steel work.

Why can't Autodesk simply add the option to use bolts instead of anchors to the column base plate connection? It's ridiculous that they haven;t thought this option might be required.

I have attached a picture as you asked.

Hi, gable wall end plate works fine for me. When modifying one of the connection (column under beam) only the connection close to (column on top of beam) is affected. Wonder what's happening? I would also appreciate to have, as Adam says, a simple column/beam and beam/column connection type where bolts+plate can be changed to only welded connection.

I'm having the same issue with the Baseplate connection in 2018.3 too. The Plate has to be at the base of the column unlike the Gable Wall End Plate. I'm able to get all the settings I need using the standard Baseplate Connection except, there are not any Bolted connection options. There is only Anchors available.

Hello Bill,

I believe that the most suitable connection for what you are trying to model is the Moment End Plate Connection. It allows the user to create the Stiffeners from inside the dialog.

Is this what you want to achieve?

Thanks for your reply.

This may work and I will try it out at some point. I think a lot of the connection issues have been solve in Revit 2019 as you can now build a custom connection. It's still not the best but it does address some of the issues from the previous revision where the connections were an add on.

I still think this should be one of the "standard" connections as it is not an unusual situation.

One last question, Materials! Are the connections referencing the Project Materials? It doesn't seem to be! I've set the Material's Shade color to a Rusty Red and the view to the Shaded Visual Style but, no color?

Hello, I'm trying to create a Gable wall end connection in Revit but Revit seems to give an alternative that doesn't fit my design intent. See I can easily create it in Advance Steel. But When I try to reproduce the same connection in Revit I got a different design. I changed the order of connected elements but still the same. I thought it was also due to a selection order like in Advance Steel, but no. What is wrong with my process? See pics

Not at my machine but it looks like the difference is the bolts going through both flanges in Revit

In the parameters for the connection go to either the horizontal or vertical bolts and untick "Bolts on guage lines" then change the centers to something more sensible and the bolts should drop to the bottom flange as shown in the Revit model
