Good day everyone!

I could manage a curved column's reinforcement thanks to you guys

This time I want to know if there is anyway to do it

I attatched my practice file

In this file I have two different types of columns

did you try to use sketch rebar tool , go to section view and sketch the rebar

Yes I have tried that and it didn't work

Since it's a round column, I cannot use free form either

Actually it's possible for the lower part as it's straight , but for the top i really do not know how to do that

Hello @Anonymous,

Circular surfaces with small radii and arc edges crossed by bars, like in the case of these circular columns, may sometimes pose a challenge for the surface distribution free form rebar set.

Here's more info on best practices when modelling rebar using this tool

To add reinforcement in this example, i did the following:

created another sweep inside the column geometry, with a polygonal cross section - this is the additional geometry for defining the bars.
- The number of sides is based on the number of bars i wanted to create
- I used a parameter for controlling the visibility, so that i can turn off the additional geometry, keep the whole thing together and not add it to the volume
created the longitudinal bars, 2 by 2, on the faces of the polygonal sweep
modeled the stirrups in a plan view and expanded to a set for the bottom part and used radial array for the top part
adjusted the polygonal extrusion to bring the vertical bars to the correct location - free form bars react to the changes of the references.

I have one more question for you

I saw one parameter I didn't create 'visible'

Acutually there were two 'additional geometry'

The column you reinforced is on the column schedule with its volume but there is no mine

In your project, i edited the model in place circular column, copied the extrusion to the side and changed the profile to a polygon instead of the circle.

I then moved it back so they overlap.

I created a yes/no instance parameter, while in edit in place mode, and called this visible

Then i selected the additional geometry (the swept polygon) and set it's visibility to be controlled by the Visible parameter.

The additional geometry doesn't need to be part of the element. It was easier in this case.

The volume calculation is displayed in the properties palette.

When unchecking the Visible and the additional geometry is hidden, the computed volume changes.
