linked IFC window door opening box

Hi guys,

I wonder if anyone came across this. When I link an IFC file, there are "void boxes" within doors/windows (EDIT: within most windows and doors although all are same families). When I open the IFC directly in Revit or other application all appears fine.

What program was the ifc file created from?

This one in Revit but I have one other that was created in some different application. Previous version of same however didnt show any of these. I simply reloaded new versions of each and this is what I get. And again it is not shown on all openings, some are just ok although same family was used to create doors and windows.

Yes that could work, unfortunately I couldnt do this each time I receive a new model (very 2 weeks)

another issue I found is that while it is possible to switch off these void boxes in a 3D view (Generic models/ifcOpeningElement), same does not work in plan view. They need to be manually deleted from the linked model or manually select each element and hide.

I have not been able to prevent these openings from exporting from Revit either. I have tried editing the import and export settings for IFC with no luck. I have also tried manually editing the IFC text file to remove the openings (i only accomplished preventing the walls from being cut).

What I have done as a work around is create a filter that filters out all ObjectTypeOverride that does not equal Opening.

I check the filter off and select all the voids/openings in the project and delete them.

Thank you for figuring out that this phenomenon happens within linked IFC's and not when you open an IFC.
