Hi,

something really annoying is happening when copying rebar.

For example, when I try to copy selected rebar horizontally to the left:

It does not copy horizontally but diagonally:

Then I have to move it to the wright place.

Please help! What's going on?

Regards!

Try editing the bar constraints before copying, selecting the top handle (bar end or whatever that is) and click the cover of the wall or element on the right.

This should set that constraint as preferred.

It may be the bar looking for new constraints when you copy it and adjusting so that it keeps the distance.

Let me know if this works. Also you can upload a sample so i can have a quick look.

Hi Ovidiu,

I'm still experiencing problems with copying rebar! I managed to edit constraints and selected parallel wall edge but none the less copied rebar is slightly diagonally placed (not offset as I'm expecting). After that Revit creates new rebar number and I have to adjust length in order to make bars equal (waste of time). Please take a look at the attached model!

I used revit extensions (wall corners rebar) and revit placed corner stirrups completely outside of walls (it's not the first time I'm experiencing this)!!! Is this a bug or am I missing something?

When copying a rebar, Revit tries to find to most suitable constraint (an element face for each constraint handle).

Changes to the bar might occur by trying to keep a certain distance to those automatically selected faces.

In your example, if you edit the bar constraints and click the end handle, you will see that it is at 70cm from a face (not visible in plan)

Since 2018, you can edit the bar constraints in 3D.

For this example, isolating the bars and host, looks like this:

You can edit those constraints and set them to the same faces and offsets as the neighboring bars

There shouldn't be any issues if you are using the constraints to the corner of stirrups. To have those available, the transversal bar needs to have the style set to Stirrup/Tie.

For the wall corner reinforcement you can try on a similar arrangement of walls, but in a new project.

This way you can eliminate the possibility of the bars constraining to some unexpected faces.

Hi Ovidiu,

once again thank you so much for your replies!

First of all I didn't think about 3D constraints, so thanks for the tip!!!

What I understood is that after every copy I have to edit bar constraints in order to make it fit as I want (in 3D if it is not possible in 2D) because revit finds new constraints for each bar automaticaly?

Can you take a look at this concrete element:

When I sketch a bar or try to place any kind of bar it gets offset 10m:

When I try to edit constraints (even in 3D) the revit "says" it cannot solve bar geometry (or something like this)!

Can you help me with this one!?

One more thing (if you have time)...can you take a look at "section 3"!? When you open it you'll see partially shown stirrups and I do not understand why!?

When you copy a rebar, it looks for constraints. If there are a number of candidates (faces to which it can constrain) in the area where you paste the bar, then it may not choose the most ideal one.

It also may slightly change to keep the same offsets from the constraints.

Regarding the sketched bar, the same behavior appears if you just place a bar in the wall. It is shifted outside.

One way to overcome this, would be to place the bar in the foundation and then move it in a section view to its correct position.

The bars in Section 3 look like they are cut, but in fact are not. The section seems to be perpendicular to the wall.

I noticed that if the section is not "cutting" the set, the bars look ok.

Also when i created a new set, the bars looked ok. Maybe this is the workaround - create a new set.

Both these issues will be investigated further.

Thank you so much Ovidiu!

This is exactly what I did,...placed the bar in foundation and then moved it to desired spot in wall. ....Thought there's maybe something I did wrong, like drawing the wall slightly off axes and thought that maybe this could be the reason of its "weird" behavior! It is still making me crazy....:-)!!!

I'll try to create a new set for bar in section 3!

Regards!

Regarding to section 3 view, I noticed that if you build another section but parallel to rebar planes, it will look fine. Maybe it helps to solve this issue (it would bother me too) and seems an easier workaround.

Hi Ovidiu,

I'm trying to apply aligned dimensions (or linear) to cross section 40 but revit doesn't allow me to. It's the same cross section where I had problems with offset rebar.....

Do you have a workaround for this "issue"!?

Regards!

Hello @Anonymous

It seems that the 65cm wall is slightly off axis. Maybe when you drew it or copied it into position, it got shifted by a small angle.

You can see this if you click edit profile in the 3D view for example.

This causes the lateral faces to not be perpendicular to the section plane and the dimension cannot be created.

I've tried deleting the wall along with foundation and recreating it. Of course you would need to re-host the bars before, so that you do not lose them.

This works.

I guess you could also draw some detail lines over the edges and dimension to those, but this would not be elegant.

Thank you Ovidiu!

I've redrawn 65cm wall and its foundation and now everything works.
